Been there three times so far. Particularly liked their "Shanghai smelly fried tofu" although my husband couldn't tolerate the smell!

Possibly the greatest dumplings in Melbourne. Perfect balance of moistness inside and crispness outside. The Fried Pork and Vegetable dumplings are just to die for, and the Shanghai Mini Pork Buns are really quite special. Also recommended are the Smoked Tea Duck and the Shanghai Fried Noodles.

However, after going here at least once a week for almost 18 months now, eating literally hundreds if not thousands of dumplings, I can quite safely say that Best Food Gallery is completely devoid of charm and class. Service is atrocious, but don't worry about that, go for the food.

Best Xiao long bao in Melbourne, why? Xiao long bao are typically Shanghainese and the good folk at this joint are Shanghainese. Good value for money, disappointing service but then again Chinese places are more known for their value and food rather than service.

This remains one of the true foodie havens for anyone. Seeking varied Szechuan, Shanghai and Canton dishes in the Eastern suburbs. The place can be unexpectedly packed but thankfully their opening hours are quite long. Don't
think twice about popping in around 10:00 pm.

Hot and Sour soup is amazing here, easily serves 3 and retails for $7.00. Best dish I've had here by far is the 'Tea Smoked Duck' served with clam buns and hoisin
sauce, truly as memorable as the first time tasting Peking Duck, the meat is slightly drier but the burst of smoked tea makes this a delight - $16.00. 'Rice Dish' menu offers a large selection of eg, brisket with rice, curried wings with rice. All respectable, generous dishes for around $8.00. Dumplings whether fried or steamed are also very respectable at $7.50 for 10.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a decent meal for three under $50 if you choose wisely. Dishes come very quickly and you can find yourself playing
'Bob the Builder' at the table trying to pile up plates. Service is curt and non intrusive. It's all about the food here and there's nothing wrong with that.

So I'm a Sichuan Hot & Sour Soup fanatic...and I've tried the same dish at countless places over and over again. This place probably serves the best Hot & Sour Soup in Melbourne - and it's awesome value for money - $6.50 gets you a massive bowl which serves more than 4 people (although it reads 2 people on the menu)!

The rest of the menu is pretty standard, but the portions they serve are huge at a really good price (ranging around 7-8 bucks). Try one of the dumpling dishes (do them fried, it's yummier that way). The food comes to you quickly, that's another plus as well. But as with most Asian places, the decor is bland and the staff isn't particularly friendly. If you want to eat heartily at a low cost, this has got to be it!
