9.3 Highly Recommended
Have been coming to this little Indonesian restaurant for a while now and have to say it is now my favourite local dine in restaurant. We love the quick service and the food is delicious. Can't fault them. Really recommend it.
A very ambient atmosphere. The bamboo decorations and artwork gives a great authentic feel. The service was prompt and friendly (seated at 7pm, entree by 7.10 and banquet started by 7.20). The food was excellent. We opted for the 2 person banquet and every dish was delicious. If you haven't tried Indonesian food, do yourself a favour and head to Masakan.
Unfortunately, a disappointing experience. We thought we would try this restaurant for two reasons, we had not tried Indonesian food before, and that it was attached to the accommodation where we were staying. The decor is a relic from the 1970's - lots of bamboo configured in an attempt to give the feel (I think) of being in Indonesia, minimal lighting which not only made the menu difficult to read, but poorly masked the condition of the furnishings and the staining of the seat cushions.
We thought we would try the banquet as we were unfamiliar with what was on offer, but it was generally unpalatable due to tough meat, lukewarm temperature and just about everything served under lashings of peanut sauce which made everything taste the same. We didn't complain, just put it down to experience but vowed to never eat there again.
The young waitress, however, was friendly and attentive. The menu boasts it was the recipient of some dining awards in the early 2000's...obviously something has happened since then. We are regular visitors to the Gold Coast, but would not return here to eat.
This was a most disappointing dining experience. After hearing that this was a "good restaurant" we were keen to give it a shot. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, I don't know. Just about everything on the menu looked overpriced but it was my birthday so we splurged and decided that it would be worth it. Boy were we wrong. We ordered a banquet and each and every course was cold. It took us ages to get someone's attention to order a drink and even longer for it to arrive.
The dust catching/cob-webbed decor was tacky and the dim lighting barely disguised the dirty table we were seated at. Since it took so long for each course to be delivered to our table (of two) we were forced to endure a 2 hour stay. To say the least, we wouldn't recommend this restaurant. For the money you can find hundreds of better eating establishments along the Gold Coast.
