Most disappointing meal we have had in years. Love the atmosphere but will never dine there again.

Wouldn't eat there again! Nice place for a drink but that's about it. Service at the food counter (01/12/2012 11am) was awful and so was the rump steak. We asked for medium and got a very very well done piece. Took it back they were not apologetic at all. They just kept looking at it. We did ask for a refund and got our money back. That's why they get 3 stars for service and food otherwise a 2 is more than fair!

I have dined at the Plough Inn 7 or 8 times now, as I meet a group of friends there for dinner and drinks once a month. We go there because of its location as an easy after work meet up venue. I’ve mostly been there on nights early in the week, when it’s fairly quiet. There are a range of areas to dine in: inside the historic pub building, on the balconies and verandas (watching the crowds at South Bank wander by), and a large outdoor beer garden. It serves standard pub fare, but with a big gap in the evening menu between fried snacks and salads and big $ mains (for example there isn’t a burger option or anything similar at night). The meals are quite expensive for what you get, especially given it’s “RSL style” service where you fetch your own food from the counter when your beeper goes off. If you are seated in any of the upstairs dining areas this means carrying your meals up a staircase.

I’ve had the steaks (which are priced at $32 to $42, but cheaper on specials night) four times. I order my steaks rare, but unfortunately they usually come out near well done. For a “steakhouse” I haven’t found the meat overly impressive quality wise. Once the steak was so salty it wasn’t enjoyable, the next time it was served the wrong sauce (it turned out several people at our table didn’t get what they ordered). Another time the “wild mushroom” sauce had huge chunks of tough mushrooms in it that were completely un-chewable. I must say though that one time the T-bone I had was very good.

As for other menu items, I’ve had the “8 hour slow roasted lamb shoulder on the bone” twice and the jus it is served with is very tasty ($29 +$6 with a generous bowl of steamed veg). One time the meat was fall-apart-tender and much enjoyed, that is until I found an inch long chunk of hard clear plastic in my mashed potato. I took it down to the counter and quietly let the staff know, but the girl didn’t even say sorry, just “oh, ok” and trotted back to the kitchen. The other time I had the roast lamb it was very dry and hard to cut, nothing like the excellent texture it had been the first time, so the kitchen is a bit hit and miss. One other issue this venue needs to address is the variability in serve sizes, with one bloke I was dining with pointing out that his roast serve was only about half the size of what some others at our table had received.

On the positive notes, the Plough Inn has several ciders on tap and if seafood is your thing my husband says the pots of mussels are particularly yummy. The mixed grill is good for sharing (though being served on a board is does tend to dribble over the table). Overall the Plough Inn has a nice ambience and a great location, but with food and service not quite up to the $ they are charging.

Lovely for a few drinks on a beautiful day with friends. Just normal pub fare as food so best to keep expectations real.

Haven eaten here a few times in the past few months and can now say I won't be back. I love my steak and after three times of being served overcooked steak (I like mine medium rare and always comes medium - well), I've had enough. As it advertises itself as a 'Steakhouse' you've got to get this right!

Service is atrocious (how dangerous is it to walk up those steep stairs with your food!) and 'ambience' on the deck with wobbly tables and cheap chairs is a bit of a miss. A nice space which could be done up a lot better. Definitely more a drinking venue than an eating one.

Good beer garden and atmosphere on a Sunday arvo. Ample selection of beers both on tap and by the bottle. Disappointing steaks. Mushroom sauce tasted more like Gravox and the meat was drowned in it, ask for it on the side if you try it. Staff on a busy Sunday were good at clearing empties but slack on a quiet Thursday night. Overall good experience, but there's better steak houses around.

Stone cold chips and a pretty ordinary steak sandwich. Wouldn't bother with anything more than a beer.

This pub is one of the best in Brisbane. The food is tremendous, service great and overall standard of the hotel excellent. Have eaten the steaks there on a number of occasions and each time it seems to get better. Well done Plough Inn. This spot is worth visiting.

Went to the Plough Inn for lunch on Monday 29th. Ordered a drinks fairly quickly and took a seat on the deck upstairs overlooking Southbank and the city. There is no table service here.

Ordering food was much more of a hassle than it should've been. When waiting to order food, there was only one person in front of us waiting to order, but the staff were only concerned with serving people who had ordered and were picking up food. The place is seriously understaffed, and subsequently the staff are frustrated and clearly cannot handle the resultant pressure. As mentioned in another review, there is no communication between staff at the establishment.

It took us 20 minutes just to order a plate of $7.95 chips. They were ready to pick up 35 minutes later, minus aioli dipping sauce because they'd run out! No discount or apology. Chips were great though. Nobody cleaning up tables and tables full of dishes everywhere!

Ate and drank there a few times over the years... great for the passing parade and good for special events. Cheers.
