Recently moved into the area, and we stumbled across Zinc last Wednesday and decided to take the plunge on the set menu for $30. Three courses and a bottle of wine with my lovely girl, and we'd notched up a bill of $100.
Service I couldn't fault to be honest. Courteous, prompt and friendly. Food was very tasty: the first course (quiche) was a nice starter (although a touch small), main - coq au vin was even better, and a decent size, the dessert (orange/lemon jelly with fresh oranges) was also nice.
Had ourselves a nice table right by the window, and all up it made for a really good night out all up. Will definitely go back.
This is the perfect premesis for a lovely cafe in bustling Potts Point, however it is let down by the rudest restauranteurs in all of Sydney. The staff are seen to be overworked and simply put on a smiley facade throughout our entire meal. The food was actually quite good, (and the coffee is really good although it pains me to admit it!) albeit expensive considering the local competition. With so many good cafe's in Potts Point, Zinc should be at the bottom of everyone's list.
This could be a great cafe with ambience, but instead it is a poor cafe with attitude, it took more than 10 minutes to be noticed, and another 10 to be delivered burnt coffee, the food would be much better if hot. Most of all if you are happy to forego service for attitude than this one's for you
Great breakfasts! Get in early to get a table. Check the black board for the Savory Mince on Toast w Poached Egg which is so yummy! The coffee is seriously good.
I have switched my breakfast allegiance to Zinc from La Bavette recently. The coffee is better and the food generally is good but can be patchy on a busy weekend. It is the perfect spot to have a lazy late breakfast and watch the beautiful people wander by. It is very Sydney.
Service is atrocious. Cold, hurried and unhelpful. A friendly customer at the table next to us asked the waiter where his accent was from and the senior staff came over and literally hissed at the waiter who immediately ran off (presumably to be whipped and beaten). The staff have far too much attitude and management should know that the customer should always come first. I can't stand staff that are rude or aloof. It doesn't cost anything to smile!
The food can be hit and miss and as some good dishes have recently gone down hill I suspect the Chef may have been replaced. Breakfasts are usually ok but if the place is busy then it's not uncommon to have something burnt.
The evening menu at three courses for $25 can be good value if the entree is substantial but lately the entree has been a just a few leaves posing as a salad. As the desserts are tiny what you're really paying for is $20 just for a very small main course. Check the menu before you go!
Easy for a last minute coffee stop. Came here on an early Sunday afternoon for a quick coffee, ended up staying for a couple of hours. Highly recommend the bruschetta and the steak sandwich (unfortunately, we weren't that hungry so can only rate the 2 dishes we had). As previous reviewers have mentioned, great spot to relax and watch the world go by! Pet friendly so bring along that best friend.
