Elegant in its décor, innovative in its food and attentive in its service, Zilver opens after a $3 million makeover from its former identity as Silver Springs restaurant on the corner of Pitt Street and Hay Street, next to Capitol Theatre.
As you approach the restaurant, a linear taupe stone concierge greets you as you walk past a gallery of oriental silverware lining the path to the main dining room. A small sleek bar with low back lounge chairs acts as a waiting area for guests on a crowded night.
Stone-cladded fish tanks display live fresh seafood and a wall, with modern timber lattice screens lining one side of the walls and reflective mirrors lining the other side. Bronze mosaic pillars create textural contrast, accented by imported lotus-shaped crystal chandeliers suspended from the ceiling.
Custom-made upholstered silk chairs in copper tones complement latte tone tablecloths and pure white china, elegant glassware and hand-tooled cutlery specially sourced from China.

Best to arrive early for yum char. It was fresh and delicious. Service quick. By the time we left there was a queue.

Very disappointing. The food, which was ok at best, was dumped on our table without acknowledgment of our presence. We were the only 'western couple' there and we were made to feel more than unwelcome, as if we were intruding. We did our best to smile and be friendly but waiter after waiter ignored us as various plates were brought out. Waiters did not look at us until we paid the bill.
Service was so absurdly poor that it actually became funny, we will talk about this experience for a while, for all the wrong reasons.

This is my second time that I visit Zilver, the first time was fine, but this time is awful. It starts with they arranged us to sit outside the kitchen, which wasn't a nice place to sit, since there are lots of staff going in and out and it sounds like eating on the roadside, when we ask if we can change, the waitress said they can't, because they are too busy.
That was ok, we ordered a prawn dumpling and a beef ribs at first, but the ribs was very dry and the dumplings are terrible, it's got holes and look like it's from yesterday. I then asked if I can change it, the women said I can't and she said there is no chance that we can change it, I was trying to find someone else to help, but that women keep saying that all of them are the same, there is no point for us to change.
I was a bit upset this time, because with the amount of money that we are paying, it is definitely not good enough.

Your standard yum cha venue. Food not bad but not exciting either. The service could have been more attentive. The staff did not bother to describe the dishes on offer and the carts seemed to get stuck in certain parts of the restaurant. Decor would have been nice when it was new. It just looks tired now. This is a good option for yum cha but there are better alternatives in the area.

A very good yum cha experience. Zilver feels more upmarket than many others without being too westernised. Compared to other yum cha restaurants, there seems to be less fried stuff and more interesting steamed items on offer. Service is brisk and no queues before 11 am. Will be back!

Since moving to Sydney 8 months ago, we've been on the search for Sydney's best yum cha, and I'm happy to say that we've found it in Zilver!
Everything we've eaten so far has been so tasty and of a high quality. Best to arrive for yum cha around 11am to make sure there is no wait. It is a bit pricier than other yum cha places but well worth it. Will be a regular here on Sundays from now on.

After a 45 minutes wait we got a seat (suggest you arrive early for Yum Cha), we had a good Yum Cha meal. Fresh steamed dumplings, many varieties plus all the usual yum cha dishes and a few you don't see everywhere. Best egg tart I have ever eaten at Yum Cha, fresh, warm and delicious. Only negative was the price, certainly costs more than others around but the food is good.

Yum cha was great. Two issues I had. We had a table for two next to a wall and the carts were not frequent where we were and had to call out for them to come by. The senior staff looked like he already had a long day and didn't want to have a bar of his job. Otherwise the decor and food was great.

Decent yumcha. Quite pleasant ambience previously but during my last visit, seemed to be packed tighter than before. I hope it was only because of Chinese New Year, as it was not too pleasant.
