This restaurant is a piece of crap. I'm not sure if it was just a bad Saturday night, but there seems to be more negative reviews on this page than good ones. We got seated very quickly, and orders were taken within about 15 minutes of sitting down.
Wine came out quickly but we literally waited about 30 minutes before the really soggy garlic bread was brought out. When asked when it will be coming, the staff member got snappy and told us to wait..though we had for a very long time. Then another 30 minutes and a pizza that we paid $19 for (!!) arrived, looking like something that had been delivered by pizza hut (or something worse).
Worst experience ever - just came back from a team lunch there. They left us waiting for nearly an hour after we ordered. When we asked about timing, the waiter replied saying "You'll just have to wait." When they did finally bring over our food, they brought it out separately (10mins apart).
When it came to my salad they placed gnocchi on my table, saying that there was no salad, "Do you want this or not?" Being famished (and slightly shocked) I accepted it and I ate it, which felt like a microwave job anyway, and they still had the audacity to make us pay for the meal. The head waitress claimed that the waiter had notified us there was no salad, when he actually hadn't. She also said "You ate it, so you pay for it!" Rude and stupid customer service.
My other colleagues had a marinara spaghetti, which "I've cooked better at home", and a margherita with chicken pizza, which was left half eaten as it was dry and a without taste. The gnocchi was also a tiny serve for the whopping $16 price. Do not go to this restaurant! Awful!
I was so disappointed with this restaurant that used to be so good! The pizzas and garlic bread are no longer on delicious crispy bases...but fat cloggy dough (like pizza hut)...simply awful and most disappointing!
Absolutely awful. I've been here once before and I don't remember it being this terrible. When my husband I walked in the door, a waiter signalled if we wanted a table for 2. He held up two fingers, which was more like a rude gesture than a victory sign. However we were prepared to overlook this as he may not have realised that in Australian culture, it was a rude sign. We were ushered upstairs to a table beside a wall, it was so cramped to squeeze into - we had to apologise to the people next to us.
When out food arrived, my husband got his pepperoni pizza first. My meal came about 10 minutes later, so I had to wait while my husband ate. How hard is it to coordinate dishes to come out together? I noticed this happened at the next table too.
When my tortellini de crema pasta did come, there was a hair in it. I sent the dish back to the kitchen. The waiter apologised when he brought me another dish about 10 minutes later. I don't know if it was the same dish with the hair removed or not. But it had definitely been microwaved. Could tell from the sauce.
The ham in my dish was so soft and over-microwaved, it was terrible. It was a small size for a main dish too. Hate to think what the entree size is. The pepperoni pizza wasn't great either. I wasn't going to stay for coffee or dessert.
Quite simply a terrible restaurant. Having frequented many of the restaurants in The Rocks in the course of my job, it beggars belief that one place could fall down in so many areas. No greeting, service while looking at the ceiling, lack of knowledge of the menu, small servings & relatively expensive prices. The tables are so close together that elbows are constantly glancing adjoining diners - good for the elbow patched "tweed"Rugby crowd, but not the average diner. The epitome of the Tourist Trap - avoid at all costs.
I have eaten here twice; the second time just to make sure the first wasn't a fluke. This place serves the WORST pizza I've ever had. They look and taste as though they've been cooked in a microwave. I strongly suspect that the bases are pre-prepared with tomato paste, then the cheese and other meagre toppings are added and the pizza is barely warmed through.
It's pallid, tasteless stuff. The accompanying Rocket Salad contained 4 carefully hidden squares of stale parmesan that looked like they'd been stolen from a mousetrap. The service was brisk but erred on the side of "get 'em out quickly". NOT recommended!
I used to come here as child and used to love the experience. The owner was charismatic and his staff friendly. But a fews years back, the restaurant changed hands and it became awful. I recommended Zia Pina to a friend's birthday party as I remembered it being great value for money and a friendly atmosphere. But I was horribly embarassed that I was responsible for the night.
When a friend tried to help the waiter to make more room on the table for the pizzas it was met with an impatient sigh and a sarcastic comment. The pastas were luke warm and the pizzas tasteless.
I thought I would give this place a second chance so I went back. I arrived first and told the waiter a table for 4. They looked behind me and asked when my friends were coming, "five minutes" I said and they reluctantly sat me down.
After 6 minutes, they asked me again and the waiter and the senior staff were pointing at me, not so subtly, in a heated argument. After that, I was asked to leave. Not even asked but ambushed by the waiter with other customers practically pushing me down into their seats.
Being naive, I thought just one more chance (I don't learn my lessons). So, I got a takeaway pizza, garlic bread and side salad. I entered and left standing in the middle of the busy restaurant signaling waiters for an uncomfortable 5 minutes. They finally took my order and asked me to wait outside. I waited for 20 minutes and when I came in and waited again, I saw two garlic breads get made and one sat on a shelf. I waited yet again, and was asked my order 3 times and 10 minutes later with a cold garlic bread, rushed pizza and a tiny side salad later I left.
I can safely say I will never return here again. The service is abrupt and rude and the food you can definitely get better elsewhere locally.
Had lunch here on a Friday. The pizza came quickly and was made fresh. We had the Zia Pina special and it was very tasty. Their service was polite, helpful and friendly. As the restaurant filled up, it became a little noisy, but not overly so. I would recommend this place for a relaxed meal, definitely.
