We come here quite frequently, at least twice a month! The restaurants decor is adequate and the paintings on the wall add to the sense of ambience, but this does not really factor in, especially when the sole reason you go there is to eat! My family and I never leave without being completely satisfied! The free serving of herb bread is to die for, and we have never been disappointed with any item on the menu.
The steaks would be what I would recommend to a new patron and the wide selection is so inviting! For me I love both the chicken schnitzel and the plum chicken so after telling Zac this he tailor-made me a dish incorporating both! The coffee needs no sugar as it is simply perfection and the invitation for port on the house tops our night off! And how can you complain when you have such a vast choice of dishes?
Since we had an offer from the entertainment book for this restaurant we thought we'd check it out. Arriving there, the first thing that hit us was the decor or lack there of. The place could do with a renovation as it looked rather run down with a musty odor.
The staff were friendly although they could possibly have done with additional wait persons. The menu is quite extensive too and they also have a deal where you have 5 courses for $25 which was good value although the dishes are smaller and not presented as well as food from the regular menu- but for such a price, it was still a good deal.
Probably not somewhere I'd return to soon but worth checking out.
Zac's did not live up to its reputation, in my opinion. We had to remind the wait staff about one of our entrees (which they had presumably forgotten), they did not top up our water bottle, a side-order of chips came along too late, and the tandoori chicken Did Not come with rice (even though the wait staff had told us it was supposed to).
The vegetables were bland and cold. The garlic bread was slightly burnt. The place could do with some better decorations, perhaps, some new paintings or a new floor (the blue carpet was very unprofessional looking). However, the wait staff were generally friendly. Also, strangely enough, the toilets in the back reeked strongly of petrol.
Zacs food is good but the menu is too big and also you have to be careful in your selections as the dishes could sound different but when they come they could be similar, Zac certainly needs an upgrade in his decor and should definitely have more efficient staff but will definitely go back because the food is goood.
Zac's great disappointment. Spring rolls and samosas were quite clearly frozen. The veal and chicken were poor quality - cut thinly and cooked poorly, dipped in sauces that tasted like they were straight out of the jar. Vegetables were bland and unimaginative. 3 dollar side of chips had about 3 chips in it. The sticky date pudding was, I swear, worse than the kind you get frozen from the supermarket. The coffee was horrible. Those of our group sitting against the wall informed us that they were damp, and joked that the restaurant was a dungeon. In short, the food and ambiance were awful. The service was reasonable but I can assure you that I won't be subjecting myself to that place again any time soon. Sorry Zac!
It is a favourite of mine, because there is so much choice and the dishes are simple but tasty. The staff are friendly and you get free garlic bread.
It doesn't try to be a fancy restaurant, it's just a nice family friendly place and it feels comfortable. Of course, ambience leaves much to be desired, but besides that it's great!
Zac's has a large menu, which on closer inspection is like a Chinese restaurant menu, that is, the same item will appear in multiple places with a different meat used. The veges are the same for pretty much every dish. My companion had tandoori fish. We expected this to be baked dry in tandoor style, but instead it was swimming in creamy orange sauce. Since everything on the menu would be appear to be produced in a similar way (take piece of meat, apply sauce, add cooked vegetables) this dish summed up the restaurant's simple approach. Now for the decor! This restaurant seriously lacks any coherent theme in its look. It feels like a temporary leasing in a warehouse, or something like that. Bland white walls, no covering of front window with six lanes of traffic whizzing past, mish mash of styles of art on walls, chairs that match nothing... At least it has carpet, so the acoustics are good!
Food was the best, the Tasmanian tenderloin yeeling steak was to die for! Seafood? I also loved the Dory grilled fillet. Coffee is good but great when it comes with port and I even got scotch on the house! Price is not important when the food is so good!
I see what everyone says about the ambience - if they could do something about that, this place would really rock. Service was average at first but then they started being quite attentive and everyone's food was good. The menu is a little large so it is hard to know where to start. Our group of 6 would go back.
Large and varied menu for such a small restaurant. Food was cooked just how it was ordered and was served hot! Ambience was mediocre but the place was clean, neat and tidy. Food was delivered to the table after a reasonable time and the wine (BYO) was opened promptly. Overall, we thought good value for money and we will return to further explore the menu.
