After dining here on a Saturday night, couldn't work out how this place was rated as high as it is. The water on the table tasted oddly like oil. We ordered the Afghani dishes off the menu. The Afghani dishes were few, compared to the online menu listings.
For entrees, we had the Aushak and Afghani crepes. They were passable, but didn't taste very fresh. For mains we ordered the lamb kofta and the goat korma, only to be told 15 minutes later that the goat korma was not available tonight. The replacement dish, the beef korma was terrible. The meat was very tough and stringy.
The salad, rice and naan accompaniment was no better than what you might get in a food court. We skipped the desserts and made a beeline out of there.

My partner and I dined here last night and were very pleasantly surprised.
We both ordered off the 5 courses for $30 menu. Entrees were Salt and Pepper Squid and Bouranee Kachaloo (Afghan sauteed potatoes). For mains we had the slow cooked lamb and the grilled fish fillet. Dessert was the Creme Caramel and Afghani Panacotta. All of the dishes were tasty and flavoursome. The servings were slightly smaller than usual but you expect this for the price so it's totally appropriate and after the dessert there was no room for more anyhow.
The service was friendly and despite being on a busy road you couldn't hear the traffic from where we were sitting. The complimentary glass of Port at the end added a nice touch as well. There's no hidden charges and no corkage for your BYO drinks as well.
Overall I would say that this is outstanding value for money and would recommend it. We will return and look forward to some of the other dishes from the extensive a la carte menu.

After reading all the positive reviews I was really looking forward to dining here, but was totally disappointed with tonight. We were seated near the entrance and the kitchen.
I ordered off the $30 for 5 course and my husband ordered off the a-la-carte menu. The food was overpriced and mediocre, water tasted funny, service was poor (we had to ask for each course which was painful). Took almost 30 minutes between Main and dessert.
When inquired about dessert overheard kitchen staff tell the waiter rather abruptly "when I am done with these they will get it" which I might add is poor form. It seems the priority is not every customer, but only the ones with a high $$ value and more people. As a couple we were forgotten despite having reservations.
Overall food was forgettable, $ 84 for 2 people not good value for money, seats were plastic and uncomfortable would expect better for being seated there for 110 minutes, seated near the door cold draft every time somebody entered or exited, poor service, noisy with terrible ambience (could not converse at all)and above all poor service. As first time diners I will not be returning for sure. As first time diners there we will not be returning for sure.

I wouldn't call this place five star quality but this place offers friendly and quick service, with decent food. Usually menus that cover such a wide range of food (mod Oz, ethnic, steak) are like a jack of all trades, master of none but we have to admit that we came out surprised that all the dishes we ordered were of decent quality.
We ordered from the Fab 5 menu (5 courses for $30 each) and chose the calamari and salt a pepper squid (lovely dressing and spices), the steak and chips (big piece of tenderly cooked steak, good serving of chips and salad), slow cooked Afghan lamb (juicy and tender meat, nice seasoning), creme caramel (lovely presentation, nice taste) and cake of the day which was butterscotch pudding (a bit too soggy, interesting take on the traditional dessert). The garlic bread and drinks at the end (we chose green tea and hot chocolate) finished dinner off nicely.
Not sure if ambience could be improved as have tried to create a nice dining atmosphere with nice dim lights and piano music, however, it still felt like we were in someone's empty living room.
All in all, a solid effort but probably not one to make a destination.

This place has all the qualities of a 5-star restaurant except that it's on Pennant Hills road in suburbia.
Food: Mango Prawn was great, but the Butter Chicken was a master piece, I would have licked the sauce off the plate if I was at home! The Saffron rice made a perfect match with the 2 mains.
Afghani bread is a nice crisp change from regular garlic bread.
Ambience: very nice inside though coming from outside you don't get that impression at all. Being on busy Pennant Hills rd is a handicap , they could use blinds to block the view and the signs outside need TLC.
Service: Prompt service when required despite full house and the food came out pretty quick.
Value: great value for the quality; the lamb/steak are dear ($40) but there's a large variety of mains under $25.

We've now been to Zac's four times, so it was definitely not just good luck that we had such a great meal the first time. Every time we've been there we've been so impressed with the quality and taste of the food. Yes, there are some expensive items on the menu, but there's so much reasonably priced food to choose from that you don't have to spend big to have a great meal.
Just last week, the three of us shared an entree, had a sensational main course each, drinks, and two desserts, all for just a little over a hundred dollars.
This has become a regular haunt for us, because each time we go we receive great service and truly amazing food. Very highly recommended.

A really nice small restaurant that offers an expansive menu and great service. I ordered off the Aghani menu and thoroughly enjoyed the goat korma and panna cotta. Add to that the great value for money and I will be returning soon.

We ordered from the Afghani menu and really enjoyed the whole experience. The food was fresh and interesting. The naan style bread was especially good. Serving sizes were good, presentation was lovely and value was excellent. Would return for sure.

Just went there last week after reading all these reviews, regretted it. Despite our request, for some unknown reason waiter wasn't able to give us Ala Carte menu, so we had to order from preset $30 menu, which didn't have steaks (reason we went there at first place). Then discovered that preset menu moves you to second class customer, you have to wait till all Ala Carte customers receive their orders.
Food we ordered was pretty ordinary, it looks like chef loves salt a bit too much.
Not sure if we would recommend this place to anybody.
