Like so many small restaurants in Sydney, it can be quiet loud when full and the restaurant is often quite full. Bookings are definitely recommended. We are repeat patrons of the restaurant - consistently good food, nicely appointed, reasonably priced - you won't be disappointed.

The eggplant and prawn fritters were good. The stuffed squid was good but as it was just two large squid it didn't have the crispiness of my Newtown favourite. The spicy tamarind soup, however, was the favourite. Very filling and full of flavour. The tofu squares were good also.

Decor is very minimalist and modern, fine but nothing to write home about. Service was good. We didn't book and were lucky to get in and lucky we had a show to go to.

Went to this place on a Friday around 7:30. I highly recommend you make a booking as it was packed and there was about 3 groups waiting for tables, always a good sign.

We started with the Beef Pho noodle sound and the stuffed squid, highly recommended. We then had the prawn pancake and curry, both of which were excellent.

The restaurant is a little on the noisy side, but well worth it for the food and very prompt service.

Food wasn't anything to get excited about and fell well short of the hype in some of the reviews. While the decor was Ok compared to the competition in the area you'd hardly site this as a reason to dine here in preference to somewhere more basic but with better food: it was also very noisy.

Personally I'd endure the bare fluorescent lights, Formica tables, plastic tablecloths and lino flooring of the nearby competition to get a better feed at a lesser price, unless of course the food is an afterthought to you, in which case I'd suggest there's plenty of visually fancier Vietnamese restaurants than this one over in Newtown.

Had a booking here on valentine day for a table of 4. Worst decision ever! Food portion was very small and the final bill was very pricey! the staff was attentive but they think that this was ok to justify good food? Food is not fresh at all. There is better place out there! bitterly disappointed!

What a delightful restaurant. Beautifully presented, clean and comfortable dining area and restrooms. Friendly and helpful staff and the food is fresh, delicious and very well priced. Dined as part of a group of 6 and sampled a good selection of the menu, two thumbs up!

A classy Vietnamese restaurant in Marrickville, it outperforms its peers on the ambience and the wine list alone. The food is consistently delicious but make sure to ring ahead and book for friday and saturday evenings as they do get very busy. The tofu rice paper rolls are clean, crisp and fresh but lacks flavour. The caramelised claypot fish on the other hand is simply divine, with tender pieces of fish coated in deliciously oily, dark caramel sauce.

The seafood salad is tasty and full of crunch and the seafood rice noodle soup is hearty and warming. Their succinct winelist provides amazing value.

It is an upmarket vietnamese restaurant where you will pay a few more dollars for a clean and comfortable meal. The chicken noodles are delicious, as are the spring rolls. After my experience somewhere else down the road (where there were flies in my bowl as well as hovering above my food) I would definitely pay abit more to come to Yen for Viet.

We ordered spring rolls, seafood salad and beef wrap. Took them more than half an hour for the spring rolls and salad to be served and another at least 15 minutes before our main dish (beef wrap) were served. Servings are really small and taste average and are not cheap. Total rip off and will never go back.

There are about five Vietnamese Restaurants in a row along this stretch of Illawarra Road all serving tasty, inexpensive food. Most of these restaurants are the bright lights and formica tabletop type of soup kitchens.

However, if you want Vietnamese in a stylish atmosphere with a young and enthusiastic team serving modern, authentic Vietnamese food, then this is definitely somewhere you should try. The decor is vibrant yet comfortable, this is somewhere you can relax and take your time over dinner with a date or a group of friends.

We were made very welcome and the staff member was very happy to help with our menu selection and explain Vietnamese customs. The food was fresh and delicious and we will certainly be going back again very soon.

It was wonderful to revisit Yen for Viet tonight and introduce my family to the restaurant. The 8 year old grandson was thrilled with the spring rolls with vermicelli and vegetables, the rest of the family very happy with the (amongst other dishes) tamarind fish, salt and pepper squid, prawn pancake and to finish the creme caramel. Such a feed for 4 healthy appetites under $100. We'll be back again and congratulations to Yen and the rest of the family for succeeding in a tough market! Great to see you again Yen!
