Ate here with a few friends 2 weeks ago and we ordered the lamb skewers, hand made noodles, mongolian lamb and pan fried dumplings. The servings were fairly large and the highlight was the hand made noodles. For the four dishes we spent $36 all up. Will be back for the hand made noodles.

Been to the Northern Chinese Cuisine in the city, this one was delightful. However, I still prefer the ones in the city. The lamb skewers were okay. The chilli chicken was tasty and the noodles were great.

A small place with little ambience. The food though was good but the menu is limited. Prices are cheap and though my takeaway boxes look big, I ate my noodles (where the lamb wasn't overly chewy for once) and the potato shreds in one go.

Amazing handmade noodles by the owner and chef are definitely worth heading back for again and again. Great vegetarian options as well, relaxed vibe and friendly staff, great for a group catch up or a quick solo meal!

The pancakes and lamb skewers are absolutely delicious. I couldn't resist ordering them for take away as well (the pancakes are still just as delicious the next day!). The trip all the way to Fairfield is well worth it, been there twice and will def be back again for more! you just can't get enough of the food here, you are spoilt for choice with such an extensive menu.

All dishes that I've tried there have not disappointed. All noodles and dumpling skins are hand made (not like those other commercialised noodles made by machines...) such good food at such affordable prices. Strongly recommend this place.

A great restaurant for lunch and dinner catch ups with friends. Pan fried leek and egg pancakes are my absolute favourites, I order two serves every time I go there. The servings are extremely generous, and you can generally come away completely stuffed with food to take home. Definitely one of my favourite places to go to locally.

“Fairfield? What is there to eat at Fairfield besides Laos food and Lebanese cuisines,” said the ignorant foodie. “Have you not heard? There’s a new Chinese restaurant which makes killer lamb skewers,” replied a friend. The ignorant foodie decided to research local eateries in Fairfield and came across a XinJiang style restaurant titled Xiao’s Chinese Noodle Bar.

The ignorant foodie is the author of this review and upon hearing about this new restaurant opening in Fairfield, a suburb dominated by Arabic speaking cultures, I was compelled to discover for myself the culinary skills that this XinJiang family had to offer.

It was a lazy Saturday afternoon, when 3 friends and I decided to visit the restaurant. To our surprise the restaurant is in close proximity to the station with ample car parking around the side street. Upon entering the restaurant, we were all greeted by a lovely waitress, smiling and speaking in their native tongue, “ni hao,” ("hello"). We all obliged and with our best Chinese accent reply in kind “ni hao!”. We were escorted to a vacant table and seated with the menu on hand. We can tell we made the right choice to have our lazy Saturday lunch here as the prices for each cuisine reasonable.

Despite the variety of dishes, we were automatically drawn to the lamb skewers. Nothing will cure last night’s alcohol binge with some XinJiang style lamb skewers. Upon further inspection of the menu, we noticed that they serve dumplings cooked either braised or fried. Looking at each other we all knew a serving of 10 and 12 dumplings (braised and fried) will be enough to get our taste buds started. With lamb skewers and dumplings locked in, we each ordered a main. One had a rice dish and 3 had handmade noodle dishes.

First came the braised dumplings, there was no hesitation from anyone as we quickly devour the first dish. With a large soy base sauce on hand, the first plate was cleared in record time. Then came the lamb skewers, we asked the waitress for plates and she was very accommodating. Four skewers between 4 people, it was a no brainer as we gobbled those lamb cubes like it was nobody’s business. The fried dumplings arrived shortly and like its predecessors it stand no chance of survival beyond resting on the plate for no more than 2 minutes.

By the time our mains arrived our hunger was satisfied, we could tell that an injustice was made as we had overcompensated our appetite. We all tried our mains and like the entrees they were tasty and surprisingly served in large portions. No one on the table could finish their mains and asked for take-away boxes so it could be enjoy later that night. We all sat back and rested our bellies, silent and fulfilled.

We decided to call it an afternoon and the smiling waitress handed our bill. The cost came down to less than $60 in total, the same amount I spent for dinner the night before.

We all walked out smiling from ear to ear. We have unearthed a gem of a restaurant, the prices are reasonable, serving is great and quality is fantastic. If I was to sum up my experience in 5 words, it will be: ...Ni Hao! Lamb skewers please.
