Had lunch here recently. I had the chicken schnitzel burger and chips which was tasty, filling and good value for $17. Two others had a grilled seafood plate each which was so so and one had fish which was good. We used a voucher from their website to get 2 free serves of tequilla battered flathead fillets which was yummy. I would easily come back!

I recently attended a birthday function upstairs at this hotel. The ambience and view are really lovely. The balcony offered a sheltered area where the smokers could puff away without offending the non smokers. The trays of cocktail finger food that the staff were passing around were truly horrendous. I have had better food offered to me at childrens' parties. It was mostly the frozen and deep fried variety, except maybe for the chicken satay sticks which were ok but nohting special.

The mini pizzas tasted off, after one bite I threw mine away. The wine selection was extremely limited but as were invited guests at a birthday party, we were not paying so felt we couldn't really complain. I have given low score for value because if this had been a party that I had arranged I would be seriously embarrassed and upset with the function manager.

The food is very cheap and nasty, of extremely low quality, mostly deep fried and oozing with rank tasting oil after every bite, I wonder how much our hosts got charged for this? On a happier note, the bar and floor staff were all very cheerful and helpful, no complaints about the service. Have your party somewhere else people, unless you only plan to have drinks!

    Response from Management:
    Good afternoon Topazmooncat,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our venue.

I'm sorry to hear that you were so dissatisfied with our food offerings. It does surprise me a little to hear this as we always get fantastic feedback about our function food, something that I am constantly monitoring. I will look into it further for you however I have not had any bad feedback from function organizers in regards to food over the last 6 months - nevertheless I do apologize for not meeting your expectations.

In terms of the wine selection you have a good point, we have been looking into updating the wine menu - although we have 28 wines on offer at the moment I would like to add a few more. If you have any suggestions of what you'd like to see on the menu I'd love your recommendations.

Thank you for your great comments about our staff, I do appreciate them and will pass them on. All our staff have a great passion for functions and give their all when running them, they are a credit to our venue and I'm glad that you have seen that.

Again I thank you for taking the time to write feedback; any feedback is good feedback!

Used a coupon for lunch, six of us. We had made a booking but they could not accommodate us downstairs so we had to sit upstairs with no bar service, plus we were told we would have to carry up our food. The platters they were served were very ordinary and I agree with another reviewer would not pay full price for what they served. The staff did try which was a plus but it all seemed disorganised. If you are offering vouchers please serve up something that would encourage you to return.

    Response from Management:
    Good afternoon Allora,

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on your experience.

I am very sorry to hear that you had an unenjoyable lunch at our venue; it's so important to us that every customer wants to return and if that isn't so we take it very seriously.

I do sincerely apologize for your below par experience and do hope that you return to the hotel at some point to have an experience you want to return for and would recommend. I'd like to send you a voucher to return and have a meal on me, please forward your contact details to functions.wbh@alhgroup.com.au.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Went to Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel for lunch today - started out with a drink which was great, service was good, glasses were cold, staff polite. Ordered lunch, one seafood platter, one tapas plate. Well, there was obviously no chef on duty today as the seafood platter consisted of pre battered and frozen fish, salt & pepper calamari, crumbed prawns - the salad consisted of a few leaves of mixed lettuce and the chips were tough. The tapas plate was definitely not value for money, the bbq'ed chorizo sausage was sliced so finely that we estimated all up it consisted of maybe an inch of a chorizo sausage, and the salad had half a slice of cucumber in it and around one eighth of a tomato - with the centre missing. When we commented on all the above to a member of staff, he commented that they appreciated all feedback, disappeared, never to be seen again. Needless to say, whilst it has been a while since we last ate there, I think it will be a while before we bother to make the attempt again.

Went there during January with a big group and a coupon for two. No way we would pay full price. Please note Emma from management, that the only positive thing about this review is the service staff and the location and if you actually read the previous review you commented on, you would see that they said the same thing.

The food is cheap crap. The sort of food you used to get 20 years ago that all comes out of a freezer and the price they expect you to pay? Forget it. Seafood platter for two? Bubble and squeak with some fish fingers is probably better value and more fun.

Came here on Sunday for lunch. When we came in we decided to try sitting upstairs, it smelt very stale. I've usually got a high tolerance for smells but we had to go back downstairs, it was fine downstairs.

Each time we ordered drinks the service seemed quite slow, there were never more than 1 or 2 people at the bar - the bar staff just seemed to be taking it easy. The kitchen was much more efficient though, lots of people and they seemed to serve everyone very quickly.

I had the shrimp sandwich, unfortunately they had ran out of baguettes and I had to settle for turkish, but to my delight they had noticed my dissapointment and put it on sourdough bread, they also changed my chips to salad without a bother which was great. It was very yummy. My friend had the beef burger which he said was "ok".

I stole some of his chips as soon as it come out and they were cold and chewy, tasted like they had been sitting out for too long. Definitely expected better quality for a $20 pub burger. So all in all it was a hit and miss.

Maybe we went on a bad day. Or, alternatively, they take far too many orders for what they can cater for at one time and service/quality suffers accordingly. After a wait for 1 hr for entrees which was flagged at the counter to arrive as a starter (i.e. for entrees and mains to come seperately!), everything came at once.

Not the end of the world. However, one of our mains had been sitting there for 20mins - we know this as we were keeping an eye on what food was coming out as we were starving! Anyway, we took the starters and requested mains come out 20mins later which they did. However, it was exactly the same plates just put on a heat plate, salad and all.

Honestly, it was a disgrace. The only thing that was hot was the green salad! The mash had effectively been grilled solid and everything had wilted or congealed. And they were happy for this to leave the kitchen! The only saving grace was the embarrassment of the lovely girls behind the bar who acknowledged quite how bad it was. At least that suggested it may have been a one off, but am unsure on this myself.

The food has really gone downhill here. Had rotten and limp lettuce in my Thai Beef salad, disgusting. My 7 year old could have made a better and more tasty pizza at home. My companion had salt and pepper squid and prawns which tasted like they had been bought at a supermarket. The ladies toilets were filthy, with taps not working and toilets not flushing. Feel like reporting them to the health authorities.

    Response from Management:
    Good morning Lotus9,

Our most sincere apologies go to you, it makes me very sad to hear that you've had a negative experience at our hotel. We endeavour to have the highest standards of food & service - it's upsetting to hear that your expectations and in turn ours were not met.

With so many great reviews about the food and overall value I would love for you to come in and have a lunch or dinner on us so that we can give you the experience that we pride ourselves on. If you could send me an email with your contact details then I will forward this offer to you.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Just a quick note to say thank you for a wonderful day!

It was our first time in the Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel last weekend and we were more than impressed. After purchasing a Scoopon deal we expected that we would be seated in a dodgy spot and that they would be a bit tight on the food, to the contrary!

We were seated outside overlooking the water and the food size was definitely enough to feed our group, the drinks weren't ridiculously overpriced either. Very good quality!

The bartender had great knowledge of how the deal worked and was extremely helpful, friendly and personable, very rare to find in a pub these days. Nothing was too much trouble and he even brought the food out to us when we were having difficulty carrying the plates.

Thank you for such a great day with great food and a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, we will definitely be recommending the Woolly Bay to all our family and friends!

Came to the Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel on a Saturday night with some friends. When we initially walked in, it gave the impression of your average pub, with bar in front and a smallish stage with one guy singing. However, at the back away from all the noise was some nice tables where we enjoyed our dinner.

Food was quite good, and the 1L cocktail jugs were tasty, but with quite low alcohol content. The service could have been better, as we had to order the drinks and food separately, which meant waiting in line twice. It is also very easy to find, and right near the wharf where we headed for a nice evening walk.
