Went for Sunday afternoon meal, and whilst I love the beer garden area and the feel of the place, the menu is overpriced. $14 for a small and pretty average steak sandwich is over the top for pub food. The gnocchi was good, and I was told the $20 steak was also good, but given the quality of food at a lot of pubs in the area, they need to drop their prices or pick up their standard. Charging $14 for the pie of the day is ridiculous, wake up guys.
We went for a Sunday lunch, ordered Beef Nachos & a Linguine off the specials board that was done with olive, ricotta, chorizo & chicken. Food was good however, the surrounds are a true dampener. The pub especially its outdoors needs a re-vamp, it's old, damp, dank, dirty, tired & ill-kept, and when you're charging top shelf drink prices, you need to update to commensurate.
Wine list was limited & boorishly overpriced, with the cheapest being a rubbish blend that would retail for $4, and ends up at $22 here, with all others at $27 - $35. The food, well the food was hearty, tasty and satisfying and great value. If only you could BYO, you could almost ignore the surrounds.
Food was delicious! Although my Atlantic salmon and Asian salad came with mashed potato, very strange indeed, it really clashed with the salmon and salad, and wasn't mentioned on the menu (as I really can't stand mashed potato I would have appreciated some warning). Another handful of salad would have been more appreciated. But the rest of the menu looked great, I would go back for the food.
My partners meat pie was rated very highly, although the staff forgot about the napkin underneath the dish when they poured gravy all over both. Still, he said it was the best pie he'd had in a long long time. The thing about the Warren View is that it's a great place, great food, but the staff seem really over it. It was Sunday night, which may go some way towards explaining the rude attitude of the senior bar staff inside, but just a smile here and there would have improved their rating. A lengthier vegetarian menu would be a good thing also.
Was here about a month ago & it was shocking. We have been maybe 6 times and usually it's OK but we had to return our food & walk out. My Atlantic salmon was cold & the Asian salad was hardly a salad let alone Asian. The person we returned our food to obvioulsy knew there were issues & apologised and gave us our $ back straight away but it left us hungry & disappointed.
It's a nice place but very hit & miss. Another couple next to us told us they were very disappointed as well, though they did eat theirs, we walked home & cooked up a feed.
I often visit the Warren View, and was stoked to find last night that they had introduced a cocktail menu. The thing with cocktails are that they have massive potential to be very bad, but I must say I was very very impressed. A Really interesting selection, and I couldn't pick just one, so I ended up having 5!
I must recommend the one that's called 'sundae chiller' or something. "Tastes like being on a holiday" and it really did! The bartender making the cocktails was really funny and friendly. I love that the place has a big beer garden with ample smoking space outside.
It was Mother's Day. We were at a table booked for 20. They ran out of schnitzel! What kind of pub bistro is this?
We ordered a beetroot and haloumi salad. The beetroot was from a tin and the haloumi was over cooked to melting, it was some miniscule offering and god knows how old the walnuts were! I ordered fish and chips, the fish and chips were fine but the mesculin salad had many yellow leaves, indicating that they were old. I was up in the middle of the night, sick, this scares me because I am pregnant, and food borne bacteria is dangerous to unborn babies.
Another person ordered chicken schnitzel which was completely burned on the outside and completely raw in the middle (thank God I didn't get that one!). It also had some indescribable mess on top of it which was supposed to be jalapeno salsa, it made my stomach turn. They offered a replacement meal and gave a $1 refund. Hello? They should have given the meal free of charge! Three people who ordered sausages and mash had the trots later that night. I doubt we will return any time soon.
We come here all the time. This has got to be one of the best beer garden's in Sydney. There's a big old beautiful tree that really makes it comfortable. There's heaps of specials on weekly, and on Wednesday night's, there is a really good Trivia on, with $10 jugs of beer and sangria. The staff are fun and the food is tasty.
I went here with another couple for Sunday lunch and I must say the food was fabulous! 3 of us had the tomato, garlic and chilli mussels (I can't remember if there half a kilo or a kilo per serve - either way heaps) which was amazing value at $17 given they were served with chips and hard to fit all in! Our other friend had the chicken wrapped in procuitto and served with polenta, which he throughly enjoyed.
Drinks and service were great too, with a good wine list and lovely ambience out in the beer garden (I think this place will be very busy come summer!) Staff were extremely friendly too.
I've now booked our work Christmas party here and can't wait to come back and try the food again! Good value for money for excellent and well presented food.
I used to think this place was a bit exy for a pub, but now they have cool specials and happy hours, recommend going on a thursday, great $5 pasta dishes.
Great staff, always pleasant and helpful. Head chef leaves a little to be desired when it comes to manners though. Food very tasty and good sizes. A little over- priced for a pub meal though. Great beer garden. Overall a nice little Newtown pub.
