Went there last night before the election and had a great sirloin steak. The beer always tastes fresh and are the best price in the area, great place to come on a sunny day.
This used to be a great fave of ours, have had many a lovely meal in the beautiful beer garden. So you can imagine my disappointment when after quite an absence came back to discover menu, management, chef had changed and it's just woeful. The most bland, tasteless boring food ever. What a shame!
Been going to this pub for 4 years. Ok so they reduced the drink prices, but I had to explain to the chick behind the bar how to make 2 of the 3 drinks I ordered (A vodka sunrise and a Vodka lime and soda) twice in the one night? They constantly run out of ingredients for drinks (such as lime). The food used to be great, the last 6 months it has gone downhill at an alarming rate and they have raised the prices! Go there, order a beer so they can't stuff it up, sit in the beer garden and you will have a good arvo/night.
Seriously, if you can come here just to sit in the garden and have a drink, then great. I personally find the staff rude and think it is very overpriced for what is on offer. I've had to send food back because it tasted rancid, and last time the nachos was stale. They also had the nerve to charge for the very small bread rolls, but I notice they have given that up now. Seriously, don't bother, a real shame because its one of the few places in Newtown with a great beer garden!
We ordered nacho's which were bland and tasteless. The only flavour came from the salt on the corn chips. Drinks are over-priced, $6.50 for a wine spritzer? Get real!
The beer garden is fabulous, a cheery little oasis in the heart of the industrial grunt of the Inner West. Typical pub fare with a welcome touch of modernity, and with only a couple of exceptions, all choices prove to be refreshing improvements on classic comfort food. Service is pretty laid back and nonplussed, but that's ok, we're busy enjoying a drink or two. All up, a pretty good regular spot for food and social drinks.
Great mussels but served with thin fries is an odd combo. The pie was good. The salt and pepper squid, don't bother, no flavour and the chef's don't know what a papaya salad is. Beer garden is great. Like the below comments, bit overpriced for a pub. I've only had positive experiences so would go back for the mussels!
