Wagamama easily had the worst Japanese food I've had in the CBD (it wasn't that bad, just out of all the Japanese places I've eaten at). Firstly it wasn't even cooked by Japanese cooks, you can see the cooks from where you eat. My "Japanese" curry ($13.50) did not even remotely taste like the genuine thing. This factor alone means I won't be back. The dishes that my friends and I ate were small to boot.
The service was okay, attentive staff when you can get their attention, which was most of the time.
Pretty bad experience. The meals we ate were all sickly sweet it was inedible. The rice was over cooked and the chicken dumplings were dry. My friends noodles were soggy and there was only 3 small pieces of meat in the beef salad. Overall not a great place to dine and won't be going back!
We go here all th time, namely for the views rather than the food though. It is a pleasant place to eat, however, don't expect a long lingering dinner, the name of the game seems to be getting people in and out of seats.
The staff are friendly, although busy. Ordering exactly what you want first time is the only way to ensure you get meals promptly. Also don't be surprised when some dishes come out well before others. We normally have the yasai gyoza nand the chicken katsu curry. Both nice and very Eurasian (meaning meat tends to be breast cut and not gristly).
Overall, a nice evening if you want something reasonably inexpensive, easy and with a nice view of Darling Harbour.
What a nice view from restaurant. The food tasted great and it was pretty good value for a meal out in darling harbour. The view is what made the night. Brilliant place for dinner.
I got ill after eating at this Wagamamas about a year ago, but decided to give them a second chance. So my girlfriend and I went to the Bridge St outlet, and had a very poor night. First they delivered the wrong food, then when my vege soba soup came it honestly make me gag. The noodles just tasted like they were made of lard and it coated my mouth with a repulsive fatty layer.
The snowpeas hadn't been de-stringed and so were impossible to chew, and the tofo was a similar oily mess. I can't remember a worse meal, and I'm not particularly fussy, the cook must have had an accident, you couldn't make food like that. My girlfriend's rice wasn't cooked either and was inedible. Then when we tried to leave, they wouldn't let us take the bottle of wine we'd started, so we had to sit there and stew over the whole sorry affair while getting drunk. We shall never be going to a chain restaurant like this ever again.
We ordered takeaway from here on Sunday night. We have previously had takeaway from King Street Wharf and it has been a bit hit and miss with waiting and making sure all of our food is in the bag before leaving (they have forgotten dishes before). So ordered takeaway, was told 10 minutes and it would be ready.
Arrived about 15 minutes later and was told to pay and wait. Waited for about 5 minutes and still no order. One of the wait staff was running around madly looking for a dish as part of my order, however was nowhere to be seen. I asked if there was a problem and he told me they lost a docket and therefore lost my order.
The waiter told me the order would be ready in a couple of minutes. Meanwhile, I watched the chef cook orders for guests seated in the restaurant (which there were only about 4 of), and left mine until they were all served. I expressed my annoyance to the waiter, only to be told it won't be long.
About 15 minutes after I arrived to collect my order it was ready. Very disappointing. The food was ok but being that half the order sat for 20 minutes while the rest was cooked, it was partly cold by the time we got to eat it. I wouldn't eat here again as the service is very poor.
Was here for my manager's farewell. There was a group of about 15 of us, because of the set seating/table styles we all had to cram on to one table not wanting to be separated and with no other means of accommodating us. There were only 4 other diners at the time and probably only a few others passed through while we were there.
Had the Chilli Squid for starters. Perfectly fried, still very tender with a light refreshing dipping sauce. Couldn't get enough of it! Then followed by the Yaki Udon. It was great except the pickled ginger was a tad overpowering so I pushed it to the side. A bit on the oily side but overall a great main and it was a huge portion.
Enjoyed a bottle of wine, and I think because it was a Sunday night they made us feel akward for being loud - naturally because we were a large group, but with few others around us. Overall, I'd come back for the food.
Had dinner here the other night. Overall experience was not very good. We had high expectations after hearing positive things about this chain, maybe it was just this location.
We ordered a bottle of wine and had time to relax and enjoy a nice meal. My partner and I had not even finished our first glass of wine and the three dishes we had ordered had already been delivered to the table. It is understandable that the concept of this chain is to turn the tables and do this by getting the food out as fast as possible, however if the guest orders a bottle of wine they are generally not in a rush. Two of the dishes were nice, yet the signature noodle dish was dry and nasty.
We were only half way through our bottle of wine by the time the table had been cleared and we were ready to leave. I asked the waitress for the check and a cap to seal our wine to be told that this was against their liquor license, so "you better finish it here". This may be the restaurant policy but it is not against a restaurant liquor license for a guest to take away a partly consumed bottle of wine if it is re-sealed. Management should do a bit more training with their staff on this issue as the poor girl clearly has no idea.
