Great atmosphere. No bookings taken and this is a tiny restaurant so arrive early and enjoy the excellent wines from the predominantly Italian list. The latest in Holt Street's burgeoning cafe scene. Vinii's food is creative, imaginative and interesting. Service is pleasant and intimate - so one feels like the only guest!

I have been to Vini for both lunch and dinner - service much better at lunch than dinner. The food is great, atmosphere unique, very tiny but interesting. We refused to sit at the table by the door as the door hit the chair if anyone entered the restaurant! The food is wonderful though and makes up for the poor service at dinner. Wine list great and value. Fantastic. I will return.

Having not seen any reviews before our trip to Vini, we were able to look at the experience completely open minded. The atmosphere and chaotic nature of this tiny restauraunt is great (if you enjoy casual, wine bar style experiences) and the menu is simple and effective. We had three perfectly sized courses each and enjoyed all of them greatly. The mainly Italian wine list is wonderfully fitting and looks great scrawled all over chalkboards that cover the restaurant - so many by the glass is a treat.

The one let down of the whole experience was the careless service. We were not made to feel welcome at all which was surprising given the style of restaurant and atmosphere they are trying to create. Not normally bothered by slack service, it was hard to forgive the waiter who ignored us yet served friends on the next table with gusto. In fact he even brought us the bill straight after our main which we sent back so that we could have dessert and coffee (it was later in the night and only a couple of tables left so couldn't've been put down to waiting diners). Nevertheless, the beautiful home style Italian food will keep us returning but we will (secretly) be hoping for a new and improved waiter.

Our party of four enjoyed our meals at this restaurant. We arrived early (about 6pm) and were able to secure a table immediately. Service was not exactly friendly but at least it was civil. However, the waiters were skilled at ignoring any hints that we were ready to order our meal. At least we were prepared for the service after reading other reviews on this site so we didn't have high expectations. The food was very good quality with some pleasing variations on usual Italian restaurant fare. The wine list is good value too with many Italian wines and most available by the glass. Yes, the place is cramped but so is just about everything else in Surry Hills. This restaurant is not the place for people of larger stature and proportions. Overall, we liked it and would go back again but not if we were pressed for time.

A huge disappointment after reading good reviews. Felt like we were at a party without an invite. Whilst the waiter fawned over one table we were totally ignored. Would loved to try some of the Italian wines listed if the waiter could have been bothered to answer our queries. The bill was delivered without anyone asking whether we had enjoyed the meal or wanted any dessert/coffee. The food was reasonable but the experience dreadful.

Amazing to find such great value in Surry Hills. I think all these precious Sydney people should get over their desire for sycophantic wait staff. What's wrong with a bit of attitude? Food, wine and atmosphere are all delightful.

Love the concept. Has a good atmosphere and the food is very good with an ever changing menuu. Great Italian wines to try. Service lets it all down. Not much knowledge or info about the wines and the service is a little snooty. It's a hot spot and very hard to get in. Too small too and cramped and people have to move for you to get out. The idea is there, the food is good, it just isn't as great as people make out due to space limits and ordinary service.

What they say is true. The waiter is smug and unattentive. You have 6 tables in your section buddy - the restaurant in its entirety! Pull it together and try and crack a smile every now and then. If not, leave the service industry.

The food and the atmosphere are gorgeous. Beautiful spaghetti with ocean trout and rocket. The service however was horrible. The waiter never brought us water or bread despite much prompting and when we found cork in the wine and asked for it to be replaced, he merely sniffed and walked off with the glasses, returning ten minutes later with replacement glasses and said nothing the whole time.

The bill was unceremoniously dumped on the table before we could finish our mains. It's a shame because it was so good but let down by such horrible service.
