If you can get a table, the food is very good and well priced. The wines are also affordable and it's enjoyable trying a glass or two of the different types of vino. The service is a little unforgiving at times but that's part of the experience. Most of the clientelle seems to be grown up enough not to fall apart if a waiter is more efficient than friendly.

Really underwhelmed. Entree of crostini (mozarella, tomato, tapenade) was nice but $6 for two pieces? My main of orecchiette with sardine (couldn't really find much sardine in the dish) tomato, chilli and rocket was very average, the orecchiette was a bit chewy; I felt as though I spent most of my time trying to digest it. My partner's rotolo was better. Dessert - apple struedel better than the rosemary creme caramel. The creme caramel was slightly collapsed, split several times at the base and the rosemary taste was too dominant. The wine list was good but it is too crammed (people struggled to leave tables) and the service was really a bit slow.

Very melbourne and good to see a place like I would see in Melbourne or in Perth. Would be back soon.

A small but intelligent menu. The almost all Italian wine list (most by the glass) is well put together and works nicely with the food. Service was affable and professional.

Superb blend of flavours and excellent selection of wines. The house red is particularly good value. Service is a little slow but more than countered by the delicacy of the food on offer. Will go again and again

Great food with a wonderfully European feel. We loved the intimate atmosphere. Food is simple and fresh and the wine list is lovely.

Great idea but poorly executed. If you are selling so many wines by the glass, it shouldn't take 10 minutes and 4 trips to get 4 different wines to one table. Food was very limited and was also way too slow.

A tiny little gem tucked away in Surry Hills. I am reluctant to say more because once the word is out, I will never get a table.

The food was great but the service was abysmal. Very snobby and pretentious. Very unfriendly. I was given the distinct feeling that we were not welcome both through the waiter's correction of my pronunciation of the menu written almost entirely in Italian and the snobby treatment of a friend who came late and was told that he could not take a chair from an unused adjoining table so that he could sit with us. It is a real pity that the service was so bad because Vini's is a great concept in the tradition of European wine bars. And the food was delicious.
