If you like Cajun food and the idea of having an tasty 'adventure' to New Orleans (its going to be a while before that destination is back on the travel menu) you should head to Victor's Soul Food Kitchen. It's authentic 'down home' cooking from the southern states of USA. We found it in the SBS Guide to Good Food in Sydney and that wasn't hard because its the ONLY authentic American restaurant listed in the book! Highlights were the very tender (and addictive) Pork Ribs and the Gumbo. We learned alot about Victor and the interesting heritage of the African American cuisine from the website first @ www.victorssoulfood.com Great food, dished up with blues and soul music but not much atmosphere in the Pub (a bit old hat in style and ambience)

This place is tucked into the back of the Glasgow Arms Hotel in Ultimo. The Soul food sampler at $26.50 is a good way to try out this place and its cuisine with a selection of ribs, buffalo chicken wings, fried oysters, prawns and a crab cake (our crab cake was not so good).

Don't go here if you don't like your food too hot or too spicy. Victor's Soul Food Kitchen offers the hot and spicy flavours of the deep south of the US in a convivial atmosphere. But if you do like your food hot and spicy then dig in to anything 'blackened' and enjoy.

Victor's provides a REAL taste of the New Orleans cuisine - hot and spicy - with enough variation in the menu to keep us coming back for more. Then there are the specials, either mains or new desserts such as sweet potato pie! Victor is an amiable fellow who manages to greet his customers with a warm smile, and when he can he visits new visitors to make them feel more welcome and special.
