Vicini (“ neighbour” in Italian) café, restaurant and pizza bar is a neighbourhood gem in Annandale. The owners have created a much needed “local” that aims to be all things to all people. Vicini’s mission is simple: create good Italian inspired food at an reasonable price with a family focus.
Open Thursday - Sunday for lunch and from 9am for weekend brunches, its produce driven menu features delicious breakfasts, gourmet salads and modern pasta dishes.
By night the ground floor space becomes a pizza and antipasto bar with a cosy and inviting atmosphere, featuring traditional hand made thin crust Italian pizzas, cooked in the woodfired oven.
Upstairs features an informal dining room, with a charming balcony area, complete with city glimpses! The restaurant has a rustic, uncomplicated blackboard menu, featuring beautiful Italian flavours with a modern twist. Service is warm and personable.

Went to Vicini on Saturday night after hearing lots about the place and it didn't disappoint. We are from Surry Hills and have been heading to the Inner West lately and will certainly be back. Arrived about 8pm to a packed restaurant upstairs with the fire place roaring, the restaurant had a great buzz to it. We shared a few starter plates and my favourite was definitely the octopus. I had the lamb special for a main washed down with a bottle of Chianti, it was all first class, the wine list was great. Would highly recommend!

Totally disappointed with our night out to Vicini the other night. You have a senior staff who doesn't seem to like people or serving them which he made bluntly clear by the way he spoke to us and facial expressions. It's an open bar yes we can see and hear you when you go behind there.! And it wasn't just us, The table next to us we're just as angry as we were at the service. We have always heard great things about this place but never again. Not worth the time and money!

Top tip: book the balcony (cosy and protected in winter) for a private table of up to 18. We booked it for my 40th and had an absolute ball. That might also have had something to do with the great wine selection, started with a lovely prosecco and just got better from there.

I am not one to generally comment on these forums but enough is enough! I have been coming to Vicini for several years now and I am appalled at what this place has become!
Came in for a quiet meal a few weeks ago and was greeted by this new senior staff. I have never encountered a worse person for a job. He strutted around, babbled for the first five minutes of our evening about who he was and how he is the new senior staff, we get it! He was consistently pushy inm trying to get us to order more food and drinks and ended up ruining our night. I was not at all surprised to read the previous comments about the senior staff here and have no doubt we have all suffered at the hands of the same person.
When this restaurant changed hands a while ago I was excited to see what new things the place could offer. Instead I have seen all the good stuff flushed out and the ambience of this place destroyed. It is a real pity because the food was fantastic yet we couldn't enjoy it for the staff serving it to us. I am sad to say after 2 years I will never be returning.

I just happened to stumble upon the review dated 14 May and couldn’t get to my laptop fast enough. I was enjoying a lovely Mother’s Day lunch at Vicini with my family right near the family that got up and stormed out of the restaurant.
I think it’s only fair to tell the other side of the story. Yes it was very busy, we too had to wait a few minutes for our table, but that’s Mother’s Day for you, the busiest Sunday lunch of the year. I didn’t mind waiting a few minutes, in fact I was expecting to. Anyway, a busy restaurant is always a good sign.
We were seated soon enough and went on to enjoy a lovely meal, my salmon was cooked to perfection as was my wife’s Risotto all washed down with a lovely glass of Italian white recommended by the sommelier. Despite a packed restaurant the waiter was very attentive and good humoured, ensuring our every need was catered for.
Yeah, we had to wait a little while for the food, but nothing more than we expected and we were actually enjoying the vibe and each other’s company so it was no great hardship. If we wanted fast food we would have gone to KFC or McDonald’s.
We often go to Vicini for special occasions because it’s local and it never disappoints. In fact, under new owners the restaurant has undergone significant change in the past few months and is now better than ever.

Well done Vicini for reducing a mother and 2 four year olds to tears on Mother's Day. Not to mention abusing me and never once apologising for what can be only decribed as extreme ineptitude at managing a set menu Mother's Day event.
Starting with our arrival at 12 for a 12 sitting and being made to wait outside in the cold for 10 minutes as you did not have your restuarant ready on time to not bothering to even apologise once it looked to being going from bad to worse. The drinks and starters were great and we thought maybe you had your act in gear but then to take over an hour and 3 different "hurry-ups we have 4 year olds who have not eaten anything for and hour and 45 minutes" just does not merit a comment.
However, a senior staff who instead of apologising for the delay states to my wife "Do you want to wait or do you want the bill?" should never ever be allowed in the hospitality trade. His comments to me when I lost the plot being forced to pay $153 for 3 starters and 3 drinks without even an apology was to offer the F word in a sentence suggesting I keep my comments to myself and then he and his other friend suggested that I should not swear at them.
And on top of that his comment to my wife on her day of the year was to have a Zantac... (perhaps, in anticipation of the indigestion to be expected from the starters) topped the day off. I have never had a worse day in my life and I felt so bad for my wife crying on her day of days and 74 year old my mother being treated that way and my poor 4 year old girls asking contnuously "why they did not get any food".
To think we had cancelled a booking at the Boathouse in Blackwattle Bay to opt for this on the basis that it had been becoming a family favourite and feeling that our children would be more confortable here. Never ever again and further there will never again be a recommendation for Vicini from us until the ownership and management staff change hands.
Good value food can only get you so far, when abysmal service defines the experience you can only do it so many times.

Very impressed. Went looking for a nice Italian meal, and certainly found it. Took my girlfriend here for a nice meal on a saturday night. The food was excellent, had the gnocchi and crab linguini and both were very good. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and Stu really knew his wines and described all the flavours with perfection. I've found our new local Italian!

Will never go back! The website says this restaurant is child friendly so we booked for an early dinner specifying that we would have a pram. On arrival it felt as though we were just an inconvenience to the staff with our pram, when making our way through the restaurant with a baby, the staff continually stopped in our way, we are the customer, get out of our way!
Temperature in the restaurant was too warm. Scallops were too small, the wrong child main was delivered, duck was served luke warm.
The host, who I believe may have been the new senior staff mentioned in another review was rude and unwelcoming, needs to take some more lessons in customer service. We did end up with a very good helpful waitress who made an otherwise unpleasant experience bearable. Having been wanting to go here for a while, very disappointing, will not return and would not recommend it to anyone.

I went to vicini last night to try out the new menu and it was amazing. We were in a group of 4 so we shared heaps of the small plates which were all great. My favourite was the octopus salad with chickpeas that were deep fried so they were beautiful and crunchy. The chorizo plate was really nice as well - it had tomato chutney and smashed white beans. For a main I had the crab linguini which was by far my favourite, the pasta was fresh and flavours were great. One of my friends had a margarita pizza which was simple yet satisfying. We sat upstairs on the balcony which was beautiful and quite private and had a lovely ambience. The waitstaff were all very friendly and were quite knowledgable about wines and how the foods were cooked. Overall I loved it and can't wait to go back.

Stay away from this place if you dont like to be heckled... we dined at vicini on saturday after hearing some great feed back from friends. The night started fabulously, we were greeted at the door by the lovely host and taken to our seats. Thats where everything went wrong, the waiter who continually informed us that he was the new manager made us feel uncomfortable and rushed. We were wanting to order two pizza's to share but then were told that , that was not going to be possible as everyone had to order an individual main... Is that a new requirement??? We were half way through our wine and it would of been too late to go anywhere else so we stayed. Never will return.. We had heard it was a great friendly restaurant and it started off well...
