We live in Eastwood and have been here many times with groups from 2 to 8 and it has always been absolutely marvelous. Authentic Italian is hard to come by and we often simply make it at home. Via Roma makes going out great fun and the attention Vito pays you once you get to know him makes it a special night. I don't normally eat pizza but this is different.

My husband and I are regulars at Via Roma, we love the food and the passion that Vito (the owner) shows for his dishes. He serves up delicious homely Italian food and we have never been disappointed, when dining there. A local North Epping gem.

Went to Via Roma with my parents on Saturday night food was to die for entree we had baby octopus Salad and garlic bread. For mains I had the Barra dish with prawns and scallops with a brady creamy sauce, my step-dad had a steak cook to perfection and my mum had the risotto which she enjoyed. Service was fast and polite staff and owner. Will be going back very soon.

I have been enjoying the authenticity of Vito's cooking at Via Roma for at least five years. Everyone I have taken there also returns. Vito makes us all feel special, no matter how busy he is. It is quite unreasonable to blame him for the mixed performances of some casual waiters.

I visited Via Roma with a group of girlfriends on Friday 5th May 2011.

Everything was going smoothly until we ordered 2 pizzas and 1 pasta in total to share between the 5 of us. Nothing was said when we ordered the food, nor when it arrived. It was only after trying to get a staff member's attention to bring a spoon to share out the pasta, when we were appalled to be told that the pasta dish we had ordered was only meant for 1 person.

The waiter who said this was probably the senior staff, because he came back with a spoon, and asked us if this was all we were going to order. He said this was not enough food for a table of 5 on a busy Friday night, and seemed angry at how little we had ordered! We couldn't speak!

A few minutes later another waiter came over to try and diffuse the situation, but he was really just trying to support the views of the previous staff member. We had a lengthy discussion about it, and our table realised we were just arguing with deranged fools. They honestly believed we were being selfish in daring to book a table in their fabulous restaurant and only order this small amount. The conversation ended with the original waiter telling us not to come back!

We finished our food, not daring to order any more, who knows what they may have done to it, paid our bill, and went to another restaurant, where we spent about the same again on coffee and dessert.

You can bet we'll be doing exactly what the senior staff of Via Roma told us to do, and never go back, and that we'll tell everyone about our experience at Via Roma at North Epping NSW.

Amazing! My boyfriend and his family are regulars here and when he brought me here it easily became one of my top places to eat. The owner is friendly and always recognises us every time we go in. The food is beautiful! authentic Italian! I can't say enough good things about it, My favourites are the wood fire pizza's, the gorgonzola gnocci and they're hazelnut gelato! The food is extremely reasonable for quality. I cant say enough good things about this place!

It is lucky this restaurant is in a duopoly situation in North Epping, and that Diners are extremely loyal even though many aspects of the operations of Via Roma are sub-par. Otherwise, if located anywhere else in Sydney, Via Roma would last as long as a Polar Bear in the Sahara.

Food: Is a general suburban italian fare, with the chef combining many different pastas, with only two or three distinct sauces, that is generally oversized and leaves you feeling bloated. The entrees are quite expensive and basic, even though they are described quite nicely on the menu.

Ambience: Fronting onto a carpark and being situated between a petrol station and a liquor store, does not give you the "tuscan" feel. The open Kitchen is quite nice except it is clear the kitchen staff do not have fun, and is quite a cold environment to look at. Acoustics inside are poor, so unless your hobby is "ears dropping", you would not want to be inside on weekends.

Service: I can understand when seasoned waiters can be arrogant sometimes, but Via Romas staff are not managed or trained, with no direction from the chef and no Matrie de. The student waiters who don't come from a hospitality background, cannot even handle the most simple of tasks, of clearing plates correctly, and asking halfway through our entrees if we wanted our mains. When I confronted the senior staff on the 35 minutes service for entrees and mains, he made his HR problems mine and gave me four wrapped chocolates (which you get at the bill anyway), as compensation. Very poor!

Value: very standard around $40 pp for entree and main, and BYO. Ultimately do not visit this restaurant, if you're an exposed diner, or trying to impress. If its the company of friends and family that makes a good night for you then Via Roma can be a choice.

Very small out of the way place. The ravioli was plain and simple but nice like that. The fettuccini was actually a tiny bit bland and a bit too well cooked. Not a big range of desserts to choose from but they do scoop gelato as a saving grace. There’s a bottle shop next door and they’re BYO which is good if you don’t realise.

The service leaves a lot to be desired. The floor staff seem highly anxious like they’re being scrutinized the whole time. Their lack of comfortableness projects a negative air in the restaurant that does detract from the eating experience because you end up with these over-anxious people hovering over you. If you have a main, dessert and coffee it ends up overly expensive for a restaurant like this.
