Vault Hotel, The Sydney

The Vault Hotel is located in the heart of the CBD, nestled on the corner of Pitt & Rowe streets. The building, circa 1920 was originally known as "Millions House" and hosted "The Sydney Club" for almost 80 years. The Vault boasts opulent federation architecture and equisite craftsmanship whilst at the same time exuding an air of urban chic.

I can't comment on the food as my friend and I came here for a drink. It was quite empty so it would be perfect place to get a drink and catch up. Service was fast and it was good until they jacked up the music and it was too loud and we couldn't hear each other. It was our cue to leave.

A not outstanding but decent/average place to eat. The prawn salad was Ok but you can tell the prawns are frozen. A friend had a pumpkin and goats cheese salad which looked Ok but seemed to have tinned beetroot. Another had a steak sandwich which seemed to have a bit of gristle. For $15 they were reasonable value however. An Asahi was $7 which is on the high end I guess. Service was fine.

Best lunch I have had in the CBD, value for money. Bar staff very friendly. Great selection of wines and cocktails. Will definitely return.

For lunch on a weekday:
Roasted Pumpkin & Beetroot Salad
-abundant slices of roast pumpkin perfectly complemented by fresh spinach, taosted walnuts, roasted beetroot and sprinkled with moist goat cheese. This was well-dressed with a vinaigrette; I'd give it a 10/10.

Smoked Salmon & Avocado Salad
-my friend's dish arrived with a generous helping of smoked salmon piled atop a bed of mixed herbs with a delicate citrus dressing. The avocado looked great but tasted a bit mushy to me. 9/10

I'd recommend this for lunch with a friend. Didn't appreciate the fairly loud techno booming over the dining room though; might not be the best place to have a business lunch.

Why is there no classification for food? I really enjoyed the food here, dropped by with a friend for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised.

I had an eggs benedict on sourdough while my friend had a salmon with sourdough bread which was also quite tasty. Pricing was around average to good value for the City.

Service could have been better and the ambience was a bit dark which makes the place somewhat uninviting at first.

Overall somewhere that I would definitely go back for breakfast at least.

2 words. Stay Away! The food is aweful. I had lamb shank, it says on the menu 'Lamb Shanks', in plurals but only came with one. That is misleading advertising and who serves only one shank? The mash tasted like the ones from a packet where you just add water to mix, the sauce is definitely gravy from a packet.

My colleague had fish and chips he said the texture tasted funny, my other colleague had chicken schnitzel it didn't look appertising, someone else had the pie, the pastry looked good but she said the meat was dry, I could see that too! Avoid! How can such business exist.

Not a place to eat. I had lunch here yesterday with my husband and boy was I disappointed. I had the salt and pepper calamari which was like rubber. My chips were cold and my husbands lemonade tasted like soda water. I don’t know if this was a mistake or there was something wrong with the dispenser. This is not a bad place to go for a drink but make sure you go somewhere else to eat first.

My husband and I dropped in here for lunch yesterday. Meals were all $15 (we ordered salmon and a mezzo plate), which I think is good value for the city. It has a pleasant atmosphere, and because it's a little dark inside, it seems quite cosy and private. A table by the window is nice, as you can watch the world go by. The meals arrived quickly, and the girl at the bar was very friendly and helpful.

Went for lunch as a group and were made to pre-order which is a pain. Food came in a timely manner but 1 meal was missed. Were seated upstairs on the most awkward stools and low tables - makes it extremely hard to try and eat a burger off your lap. Food was very good but service was appalling. Then was overcharged as the prices on their website had not been updated. That's 20 people who won't be returning.

This place is my new local, the drinks are standard city prices which is fine but the whole place with it's high ceilings and red velvet curtains just changed my whole requirement for a drinking hole. The staff are wonderful and very personable, the food amazing when you take into account this is really just a bar and food is an extra. Anyone who does not like this place is out of their mind, I think I would live there if they would have me ! Give heaps of tips guys, good barstaff deserve our special thanks !! What could be better than a nice Verdehlo and a beautiful bar girl to pour it for you?
