The decor and toilets need major work, but the food and service is consistently excellent. My favourite japanese in Sydney.

The sashimi and sushi was nice and fresh but the restaurant itself was pretty gross. The "underground" feeling would have worked had it been a noodle bar or Chinese restaurant but raw fish, in my opnion, must be served in a clean (almost sterile) well ventilated establishment. The atmosphere was stuffy, smelly and dirty. The food was the only thing I would come back for but only to take-away!

A yummy local favourite of ours. I love the fresh sashimi and the underground vibe. In an area where a lot of restaurants are 'too cool for school' it is nice to come to a place that isn't pretentious!

Went here on the recommendation of friends and wouldn't be rushing back for a while. The service was great for a Japanese restaurant, staff very attentive and table layout was very spacious. The food however was not up to standard and I have had better at sushi train.
The chefs shoes was very disappointing and seemed to comprise the leftovers of sashimi that wouldn't be fit for consumption, lots of chewy gristly pieces of fish diced up and mixed together with "special" sauce, not at all like the picture on the menu. The variety of sushi is good but not cheap and the creme caramel was delicious. At over $100 for 2 of us, the value for money was not great.

Great value, awesome food. A little noisy on a busy night but to be expected in a basement style restaurant. We love the place and go there often. I encourage anyone to go there and see how the food compares to a restaurant IN Japan!

Not sure why there are two $$ on this listing, I found this place to be great value for money and really good quality, fresh Japanese food. Yes it is a bit noisy and on the dark side, but the place has a fun 'Tokyo underground' vibe.

Really great sushi, especially when ordering by the piece. Chirashi sushi (scattered sashimi on sushi rice) is good value and the tempura is nicely minimal on the grease.
Teriyaki chicken and the beef dishes are nothing to write home about, stick to the sushi and sashimi and you can't go wrong.

Presentation and quality! This place is tucked away underground, but don't let the surroundings put you off. The sashimi is excellent. Sushi is fresh and tasty, the tempura light and the service was quick and easy. A good variety of Australian and Japanese beers are available as well. I would dine here again, no problems.

Food: simply one of the best jap restaurants in Sydney, I hope not many ppl read this cos I want to keep it as a secret. Try the unique special stuff guys like raw beef salad, soft shell crab so good. Ambience: love the underground feel, however, the sticky vinyl table cloths are smelly and sticky. They should remove it asap.
Service: they bring the food and drinks thats about it. Staff have poor english and communication , I asked for 'whats nice' and the waiter goes on yes yes rice rice.
Value: great value for a city restaurant. Just what Sydney needs, a restaurant with real food and no attitude.

Probably one of my favourite japanese restaurants in Sydney. The food is delicious, original and the menu consists of a great variety of meals. The service is lovely but can get quite busy at times. Not sure if it's the ambience or the lighting (it's a little dark and dim inside) but I also seem to have a great time when I come for lunch or dinner. The value is well worth it. I love Tsukasa!
