Firstly, I am Greek and eat out 7 days a week. I have eaten in so many great Greek places in Sydney, and yet have never experienced food so horrible in all my life. I think this place has the worst Greek food I have ever had, and the service to match.
There were two of us and we had a meat & seafood platter for two. Everything was terrible - the lamb was chewy, full of fat and old. The potatoes were so over done that they weren't edible without ketchup, and you don't eat ketchup with Greek food. There were a few rings of much too salty calamari and a couple of prawns. That was the only seafood in the platter. There was one chicken souvlaki with 5 pieces of chicken to share between two people, and it tasted terrible.
There were two chefs and one waiter and they were outside smoking and chatting all night, while we ate dinner. We and several other tables had to wait for them to come in before we could ask for another drink. When we got up to pay, one of the waiters was behind the register shoving food down his throat. So terrible in every way possible - this service and food would just not fly in Sydney! Lucky they get the unsuspecting tourists dinning there, as I'm sure the place would otherwise be empty.
We left hungry after paying $140. Avoid avoid avoid!!!
I have eaten at Tries Elies several times now taking groups of people. First 2 visits was a Monday night and the last was a Saturday night. I have found the service excellent. We book a large table as we usually order lots and lots of entrees and find the banquet style of browsing eating stunning. The food has been consistently excellent and authentic to the greek style. Yum Yum Yum. Look forward to my next eating opportunity there.
We ate on a Saturday night and found the service fantastic and fast! The Mezze platter was fantastic and the Haloumi divine. We ordered the Meat Platter and while it was on the pricey side at $42 it was awesome. The Mousakka was delicious as was the rest. Yummy side Greek salad also.
The gelato for dessert was a bit icy and 'old' tasting. That would be my only criticism of the meal. That and it is a bit on the expensive size but the portions are good and it was a great meal.
Went here last weekend, took an hour and a half for our food to come out. Some parts were dry, some were burnt, it didn't taste good at all. Staff were rude, one waitress bumped the table and spilt wine on our wallets/purses. It wasn't until we complained and said we were going to leave that the food miraculously became ready. Top it all with the priviledge of paying $115 for the meal for two. Definitely one to avoid.
Well, we went to Katoomba for our 1 year anniversary, and booked a table here for a romantic dinner. Unfortunately it was a big mistake and an unfortunate dampener on our weekend. Granted we are of Greek-Cypriot background so we might be a bit fussy but this is by no means a good representation of Greek or Greek-Cypriot food. The highlight of the night was the grilled halloumi but you really can't get that wrong! The keftedes (meatballs) were made with disgusting mince, the lamb souvlaki was chewy and cold. My slow cooked lamb was swimming in oil and very fatty, and the accompanying potatos were undercooked.
The service was ok but it was not busy so should have been a lot more attentive, plus we heard the same CD playing twice in succession while we were there. I don't usually post reviews but did not want people judging Greek food on an experience at Treis Elies!
The service and food here was excellent. Just as good as any Greek place in Sydney. It was a little pricey but we didn't mind as the service was so good. We will be going again next time we visit Katoomba.
If you are reading this review to find somewhere to eat in Katoomba, please do yourself a favour and stay away!! Rude service, ghastly food, overpriced. That's right, the hat trick!! There are some great places to dine in the mountains. Can't believe this place is still around, ripping off unsuspecting city folk.
