The refurb really opens this pub up, the indoor areas are many and comfy compared to the previous options. Pity the food has got worse, yet more pricey. $26 for a curry is way pricier than the thai or indian restaurants nearby. $18 for a soup? Go there for a drink before or after your meal elsewhere.

Food was dry, however, environment is nice. But I'm not sure why Mr Haines (bar manager) picked one girl in our party of 18 and told them that they have 10 minutes to leave the premises. Killed the night for us especially given the 'old' members and what state they are in.

The Tox is my local, but I will not go back there until they remove the Bison's head from above the bar. Discussing this with staff, it emerged that they had received many complaints in the first week and the staff were unimpressed. I went there this evening but the head of this endangered animal was still there. I will not return, my friends and family will not return and I will happily bad-mouth the Toxteth Hotel in Glebe until it is gone.

Instant gravy. Frozen vegetables. "Italian pork & fennel sausages" that turn out to be $2/kilo Woolworths variety. This kitchen is a joke. Staff are well meaning but slightly shambolic. In summary, don't go for the food.

OMG! This is simply the worst food I have had in Glebe since I move here 6 months ago. The worst food I have had in years. I'd rather eat at KFC and I haven't done that since a road trip and extreme desperation.

I continually bag out the AB for it's just incredibly ridiculous priced for both food and drinks but now.. hmmmm

We decided for a pub meal and thought a walk up the road and try out the Toxteth was a good idea. Nice beer garden apparently from what we heard, and yes it is! We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. Lovely atmosphere. Reasonably priced drinks. Great.... WRONG!!!

I ordered the $30 400gm Scotch Fillet with veggie and chips. What came out was literally so disgusting I could hardly eat it. The steak looked like some mangled piece of leather. The weird thing it really didn't even look like steak. I asked for medium/well done but this was cremated. It tasted so foul I could only stand a couple of mouthfuls. I tried dipping into my partners sauce...at least that's what I thought it was.. apparently Dianne. It tasted of burnt electrical tape. How could someone make a steak taste so bad? I have no idea.

The veggie raw....it consisted of chunky bits of zucchini and carrot with one mangled piece of broccoli. It was very disappointing as well. The only thing they kind of got right was the chips...so I ate a few of them.

The presentation was something else too. The whole thing quite literally looked like it had been thrown adhoc onto the plate. Bits hanging over the side. The steak plonked on top of the mess.

But I should go back in time to the entree that we shared...chicken wings with dipping sauce. One word, foul!!! It tasted old and almost ready to be binned with this thick oily layer of bread crumbs that also tasted awful.

I hate complaining as it generally ruins the night and it's such a hassle dealing with the fake 'sorry' etc etc etc... I rather vote with wallet by never going back or...Eatability!

So I just left most of it on the plate to see what kind of reaction when it was picked up. Not a word! Not a word! They must be so used to people disliking their food that if someone just basically leaves most of it, it's normal!

What really gets me though is the fact that I paid $30 for that. That's a lot of money in Glebe. I could go and get a first class meal at many places for that money, from people who really take care of what they serve. I could get a great meal for $15 at some places.

Anyway, Toxteth you are hereby officially BANNED! You will have to pay me in future to try to eat your disgusting food...$60! Absolutely disgraceful. Avoid at all costs.

Had a horrible experience here. 1 of the people in our group has an allergy to gluten, and not only did the two bar staff not care. The lady in her 20s decided to mutter that "if you can't ****ing eat anything, don't come here to eat." the man in his 40s behind the bar was also rude, insisting that they won't make any alterations for people with allergies because "they'd make no money."

Hopefully the new ownership in the Carnegie group and John singleton realise the best way to make money is to find better staff. Never had such disgraceful service and our group of 12 moved to a nicer pub 200 metres down the road. We used to go every week after sport, but will no longer go because of this experience.

Monday Trivia night was great, best Trivia presenter Ive seen. Fun crowd and the area opens onto the outdoor beer garden (great for a quick smoke). Hard to rate beer but it was served in a nice cold glass & the 2 4 1 meal deal made it very well priced. I'd come back for the Trivia night again.

Went back to the Tox for a meal after 6 months. Lamb shanks were nice, the parmie good. Its really nice to sit out in the courtyard. Bottles of wine are quite cheap for a pub.

Go here on Monday to Thursday nights and you get two meals for the price of one (if you can figure out the poorly written menu!). That's great value for ok food. This rating is based on my group experience on a Thursday night a few weeks ago.

The Tocky was a good place to go if you have kids. But it seems there has been a shift in attitude just from select staff members who have appeared there in recent times. I have always found the staff to be accommodating and tolerant when it comes to littlies, until a few occasions lately when I have found myself being watched like a hawk and constantly told where I can and can't go with my child, like away from the bar (ah, the sign on the door says under 18s must be accompanied in bar area, not that they are forbidden), meaning that I couldn't even place my food order until I removed him from the area, apparently.

So, perhaps, I should put him down on the floor in the bistro and just hope he stays there while I wave from the bar? I don't appreciate having this staff member come and check on me while I'm using the atm to make sure my kid isn't setting foot in the adjacent pokie area, either. I have worked in hospitality for 9 years and know the rules, but even that aside I find the attitude of this particular person very condescending and a disappoinment after half a decade of loyal service to this place!

Needless to say, when I was a young hard drinking childless female I was a much more highly valued patron than I am today as a parent who only spends a few dollars at the bar on orange juice. However, there are some lovely people working there as well. The food is pretty average and the last price rise they implemented has made some of it ridiculously expensive for what you get. Now they've done away with most of the 2 for 1 specials I can't really justify spending money on dinner there.

There isn't much under $20 which would be fine if it was particularly good quality, but it's just ordinary old school pub grub.
