I always go for the prawn mee because its the most authentic of all the food served here. On Saturdays they sell very nice nyonya "kuih" which will cure most Malaysians' homesickness. Prices here are very reasonable compare to other Msian restaurants in Sydney.
Laksa is not the best in town. Try the Hainan Chicken Rice or Hor Fun. Lobak and satay is good too. Skip the laksa and Penang Laksa. Not authentic! A little skippy on the sambal.
To's has nearly the closest to what I can find back in Singapore. And from someone that just recently came over from Singapore, I'm sure my taste buds haven't changed. This is one of the few restaurants that have the chilli for the "Hainan Chicken Rice" done correctly. Albeit the chicken meat isn't as tender as what I am used to, and the rice doesn't smell as good as back in Singapore, and the "base" spiciness of their dishes isn't that spicy; you'll forgive them for being a business and therefore having to "dumb down" the strong flavours a teeny bit to cater to the general Aussie market. Of course, chilli is free for you to add to your food to further spice it up to your liking!
You'll also feel right at home with most of the very friendly staff.
Throw in the reasonable prices (compared to some other restaurants that serve similar quality food but at much higher prices), and you'll soon be a frequent customer like I am!
This is arguably the best laksa in town with a balance of flavour and heat (the chilli on top is a must). I ask for extra vegie, but then no laksa place gives enough veg. The beef rendang and the char hor fun are great too.
Weekdays the place is full of suits, but Saturday the place is buzzing with (what appears to be) Malaysian families. I have seen people leave with nearly $100 in take away. Also, must give a mention to the family who run the place who are pleasant and friendly.
There is no where better than To's for a nice laksa and curry. My boyfriend and I always goes there, the staffs there reckonise us already. I don't think you should expect five star service there, since they are only a family style noodle place. The place is clean, limited waiting time on food, and friendly staffs. It's a great place that I would highly recommend.
Heard some great things about the authentic Malaysian food at this place so went down on a lazy Saturday for lunch. The streets around North Sydney are pretty dead on the weekend but this place was going off. The place was absolutely packed. Service was a little disorganised with no queue and a pack of people gathered around the counter. Tried a Laksa and my partner a Har-Mee. Overall I was a little disappointed with my laksa, though I think I had pretty high expectations to begin with. The soup is what really makes a good laksa and I found this one lacked a bit of zest and needed some extra chilli to spice it up. The portions are a bit on the smaller side but still satisfying. With all the people eating and on a Saturday maybe it was just me who didn't see the light?
