I have been a loyal customer of To's for years but was really disappointed when the original To's left last year. Anyway, quite by chance today I came across them when I went into the CBD for a work meeting. They are now Ito's at 201 Elizabeth (food hall) and it was Fabulous to have the originals back. To's is still great, but I will be sure to be visiting Ito's Malaysian whenever I can now. Was great to see Irene again as well.

I always come back for the Har Meen here because it's simply the best I've tasted in Sydney. Coming from Malaysia myself, I can say that this is fairly close to the authentic style Har Meen back in Malaysia.
However, the spring rolls here are below average and taste nothing like the 1s back home. Fried chicken was nice and moist albeit a bit oily. The lobak is decent but definitely not close to the authentic Penang ones I'm used to.
Will definitely always keep coming back for their Har Meen, while my partner will come back for her Assam Laksa (a little inconsistent).

Another one of those hidden gems within North Sydney, tucked away in somewhat dark dugout like section under a building, To's offers a great variety of Malaysian dishes.
My favourite is their Laksa soup, which is my favourite in Sydney. The soup has just the right balance of flavours. It is best when you ask for a generous dollop of chilli paste. Noticed I am mainly talking about the soup, that's because they let you put any kind of meat into it. My usual choice is chicken.. my only complaint is that they throw in a mixture of breast and leg meat. I totally prefer soft juicy leg meat over dry breast meat. Their other dishes are decent but they cannot compare to the greatness of the Laksa.
The service is pretty much self-serve food court style. Value is good relative to other unpleasant places in North Sydney charging an arm and a leg.

Conveniently located on the lower ground floor of the building where I work, this little lunch time eatery is very popular with north sydney workers who regularly queue up for the Malaysian dishes on offer. The laksa here is very good and comparable to my fave one from Hunter street. Their Hainan Chicken rice is seriously good too. Friendly service, great value. North Sydney is lucky to have this place in my honest opinion.

Great little place. I first went there regularly about 8 years ago when I worked in NSyd. I happened to be there today during lunch time so was very excited to get some good Malaysian food. I was blown away cause I didn't remember their Har Mee (Prawn Noodle Soup) being so good. I would go every day to try each of their popular dishes but, unfortunately, I'm no longer close to NSyd. Didn't have it but their laksa looked very good, heaps of people were ordering it.

Please don't be put off by the reviews that say the laksa is 'average'. The key, and I mean the vital difference between a good laksa or an exceptionally good one, is the sambal. When they ask you if you want chilli, tell them, I want triple chilli. Without brutal amounts of sambal, the laksa at To's is good, but with a stomach burning handful its brilliant.
In fact its on par with the mighty Chinese Malay take away on Hunter St in the city of which I frequent very often, and which is commonly regarded as the best in Sydney.

This restaraunt changed hands, but the new owner is still a guy from Penang. And the cook is also from Penang and there was an Indonesian chinese woman behind the counter. Some components in a Nasi Lemak (eg. egg) was missing! The staff are mostly students from China, but the new owner is still very hands-on. We have also been coming here for years. After the change of ownership, we still like the food. The family who used to run it had a very chaotic system of ordering and delivery.
Portions are not exactly generous (1/4 teaspoon of sambal per plate) but the food is still good. We still keep coming back. Recommended!

This used to be one of the best in Sydney for Malaysian hawker style food. But it changed hands a couple of years back and isn't as good a before. Still busy, but the food isn't up to scratch. Staff are all non-Malaysian chinese (mainland chinese employees I think), so it's lost the family run atmosphere and quality.

Some food are pretty authentic! Examples of good food include Penang Assam Laksa, Penang Char Hor Fun, Penang Prawn Mee, Lo Bak is quite good as well. We don't go there as often due to the parking. Parking is not convenient, you'll find metered parking in North Sydney, and this is similar to a food court set up where you'll have to service yourself. You go there for the food, eat up, enjoy and go.

Great Laksa! It's more take-away style, so hard to rate ambience and service, but you go there for the laksa (chicken for me) and leave happy.
