We ordered fish cakes, golden tarts, crying tiger, mixed seafood curry and pad thai. The fish cakes were very well made shallots and gingers. The golden tarts were nice, but I find the peanut sauce was too empowering, that was the only thing I could taste. The disappointment was the crying tiger, wasn't made properly with marinated + grilled beef fillets. It was just stir fry beef slices, still very nice, but not authentic. The mixed seafood curry and the pad thai was wonderful, very flavorsome.
The only downside to this restaurant is that it is too small, it is by far the best thai food I have ever had, I love it, I cannot wait till the next time I am there.
Very disappointed after seeing so many good reviews. We ordered a tom yum goong, "golden tarts" which was money bag is disguise, penang curry and honey duck.
The only dish was reasonably good was tom yum goong. Golden tarts was in fact money bags with overcooked peanut fillings and dry pastry. Duck was tasteless, under-marinated with sauce. I'm never a fan of Thai curry but my partner really liked the penang curry (sauce was rich and flavoursome, although chicken pieces were dry as). Staff was not very friendly and couldn't exactly tell us whether they're BYO or licensed. Will not be going back for sure.
We love Tom Yum! As locals, we love the friendly and quick service (for both eat-in and take away), and the free delivery for the local area is a plus too (especially if it's raining/cold out!). We have never been disappointed here, and love the curries and stir fries, but all the entrees we've tried have been delish. We go to Tom Yum at least once a month, I recommend it!
We have regularly dined at this restaurant for over 12 years now. And as yet have not found another restaurant that lives up to the high standard of food and service that we receive at Tom Yum Thai.
We recently went to another Thai restaurant closer to home that had won some award for their food, I don't know how, I can cook better, never again. For Thai food we will stick with Tom Yum Thai. We travel quite a distance to eat at this restaurant since moving out of Cheltenham. It is worth it.
Dishes worth sampling are curry puffs, panang chicken, satay chicken and jungle beef stir fry (if you want something a little hot). My husband raves about the black sticky rice and cooked custard but my favourite is the fried ice-cream. I highly recommend this place for good food, friendly service and good value for money.
Tom Yum Thai is a really good value local Thai restaurant. Not as elegant and refined as some, but good honest tucker. We like it, principally for take away.
The staff were fairly pleasant and the service was attentive without being overly intrusive (although having said that, I did get served one helping of rice before I had a chance to refuse).
The food was reasonable, but a bit too salty for our tastes. My wife and I had Tom Yum soup, which lacked the "clear texture" and tasted a little bit too strong for my liking, fresh chilli chicken, which was good but not outstanding and fried chilli fish (which I thought would be like a crispy style, but my mistake, it ended up being practically the same as the chilli chicken).
The place was packed, and quite noisy, but we were able to have a private conversation without straining.
I've been to this restaurant a few times. Fantastic food and service. Food was very fresh and tasty. Had the curry puffs to start, then coconut prawns (highly recommend) and Penang chicken curry both with rice. The servings were so large we couldn't finish it all. Will be back again.
Absolutely love this place. We have eaten-in and ordered take away on several occasions. The food is always good and very good value for money, the portions are always big. The restaurant in itself is nothing special, its actually quite small and a bit noisy but the food and service make up for it. The staff are always really friendly and quite attentive. They are often very busy on weekends and can be useful to book.
