This is a quirky and endearing place with a menu that ranges from the generic (wonderfully executed) to the daring, think starfruit, raspberry and white chocolate muffins or the Mexican breakfast, jalapeno peppers, coriander and scrambled eggs wrapped in a tortilla and served with avocado, sour cream and tomato salsa.
True, some of the more extreme dishes do not always work (I can’t quite bring myself to enjoy a marshmallow and peanut butter muffin, though I guess there is a market for that sort of thing), but it’s never a boring place to dine. It is a bit disappointing that there is no all-day breakfast but the lunch menu is varied enough to compensate and the salad compositions can be as original as the muffins, my personal favourite is the lamb with black sesame, mixed seeds, mushrooms and brown rice.
The staff are super friendly, though it can be a bit of an intimidating place for the non-regular (though that can be rectified in fairly short order). Overall, one of my favourite and consistently gratifying places but, for the love of god, change that music!
Did they change chef? Breakfast here used to be fantastic and their muffins were moist and delicious, today I had an horrible muffin, dry with walnuts that tasted old. My partner got a special with scrambled eggs and salmon, the salmon was cut in tiny pieces and was mixed with the eggs, really overpriced at $16.50. Such a pity, it used to be one of my favorite breakky spots.
Congratulations on your 10 Year Anniversary! We wish you all the very best in the future and we look forward to sharing the next ten years with you and your lovely staff. Thank you for a wonderful evening last night. Great space, fabulous people and best coffee in Sydney. See you soon!
I think it's a bit overrated to be honest. Wasn't the greatest experience I had. The waitress didn't seem too friendly. We went on the website before we visited the cafe and had a look through the menu, so when we got there we sort of ordered straight away. We asked for a panini sandwich, which was written on their website, and the waitress even repeated after us that it was a panini. When she served a sandwich roll on a plate we told her that we had asked for panini, then she snaps at us saying that they didn't have any paninis.
In addition to that, we got a bit confused from the menu and thought that the banana and raspberry smoothie was one smoothie, so we ordered, sounding like we were ordering one smoothie. She couldn't care less, took the order and then served us with two separate smoothies. It was a bit ignorant of her when clearly it was something she could've picked up and mended. The food was okay but not fantastic, and I think it was a bit overpriced. Surrounding cafes have better food and service in my opnion.
Wonderful Surry Hills cafe. Really good coffee and food. The service is really nice, but I had to mark lower because the staff can 'sometimes' be nice but can also be pushy, in your face and rude. I really like all the organic produce used without making the food to pricey! Plus they have a cute little retail area with some interesting products. I would recommend this place for weekday and weekend dining. Great place.
I had the chicken and corn soup and it was very tasty. They give you a dish of pink salt flakes which is cute. The sweets looked very tempting. Nice cafe, comfy seats, has a little shop section also, where you can buy eco-friendly thingies and gourmet foods.
Well, I had late lunch today. I had a big bowl of salad, it was fantastic! Very tasty and fresh…brown rice salad is my favourite, haloumi salad too, and really big portion for the price, 100% recommend!!! But only one thing about coffee, it was awful…really warm and bitter. It was quiet good before, today one of the Chinese girl made it I think but..where is the kiwi guy who was normally there???? I’ll go back there to have lunch but not sure about coffee???
