Overview of Tiger Mottle
A relaxed cafe with excellent coffee, food and great music. Soak up the warmth in front of the fire whilst watching the vinyl spin on the turntable. The menu has lots of goodies to choose from including Billy's Bubble & Sqeak, a customer favorite, grilled sandwiches, and weekly specials such as sage mushrooms with wilted spinach, ricotta and parmesan on charred sourdough toast - $12.50. There's also great counter treats like our daily baked muffins and bacon & egg tarts. We're also open for dinner on Wed, Thurs and Fri nights from 5:30pm - 10pm. We have a separate dinner menu which changes monthly. Bookings are available for nights only.
This cafe is possibly the best cafe around paddington area and now they are open for dinner, its even better, means I can grab a coffee on the way home.
About 4 weeks ago I went for dinner on a friday night and they were flat out which is wonderful to see. I had the eye fillet and the beetroot salad-it was amazing, the staff, one girl, was doing an amazing job, she seemed to be in about 10 places at once and was hosting the customers with such confidence and poise at such a stressful time. Hats off to her! can't wait to come in again.
Food is quirky in a bad way. If you like 15 things on a sandwich and 1990's womens weekly's then you might like their food. Pretentious service and detestable attitude.
Well first I would just like to say about one of the previous comments from the owner, about how staff are entitiled to a higher pay rate on weekends! A friend of mine recently worked there and there was no such extra pay rate on weekends.
Despite their bad reviews, I was there recently and the senior staff was a complete snob when it came to the coffee. Ambience was okay, and some good music, but the white chairs and tables make you feel sick!
Food on the other hand is fine but be prepared to order your coffee first and have it come out after the food!
Went for breaky on the weekend. It was totally full so we had to wait for a table, but it was worth it. I had a smoked trout benedict which was delicious and a couple of really good coffees. Definitely the best cafe in the area.
Terrible service and tell you that there's no split bills on weekends. Also surprise you with a 10% surcharge at the end. Never going back.
Response from Management:
We apologize if you felt the service was not up to scratch. It is something we normally pride ourselves on. In regards to the 10% surcharge and the no split bills policy in the weekend, both are displayed when you enter the cafe. The reason for the no split bill policy is that we simply run out of smaller change due to most people having $50 notes. The 10% surcharge is a common charge applied to Sundays and public holidays, because staff are entitled to a higher rate of pay on these days. Unfortunately, user pays.
Love, love, love, love, love! The best coffee I've had, even better than Campos (Camperdown), but with a smile instead of attitude from the barista!
The food is so thoughtful, and artfully balanced that you feel you're eating the result of someones passion and brilliant design instead of just brunch. It is so reasonably priced that it almost suggests a humility that their food is for everyone, not only those not challenged by the GFC!
The coffee is consistently excellent! The music is relaxed and perfectly pitched. And a big bonus for someone who works 80 hrs a week in the west, its open on Sundays! Yay! Go enjoy a wonderful experience, and you'll be really glad you did, and like us, come back for more!
My new favourite cafe. Best coffee in Sydney in my opinion and the food is awesome too, good music, service etc. If it was in my neighborhood I'd go daily but as it is I drive from Randwick for the coffee. Fantastic!
Edit August 09: Been here loads now, coffee's always top notch and so is the food. Special mention to the Smoked Fish Pie - I'm a big fan of Fish Pies - and Tiger Mottle's is a superb one and comes with great mash spud as well.
Great food and one of the cheapest place to get brunch in paddington. Coffee is good if you like your coffee strong. I love their specials. Something different every weekened. A must try is the bubble and squeak. Tastes very homely!
Consistently excellent coffee. Great atmosphere. The chef obviously knows what he's doing and the portions are generous. So friendly. A 'home away from home' but don't tell anyone else!
