Not a standout Thai restaurant. I went there hoping for some real sensational food and left feeling very disappointed. The dishes lacked flavour and the servings were not large. Service was friendly enough. Not going back in a hurry.
The moment you step in Thu Thuy, service will be there ready to serve you right away! Then you look around you and it is not like a norm azn restaurant. Comfortable but enough space to have a conversation without the other table nosing on you.
Food's out in 10 minutes and forget about waiting for your drinks! They ask then deliver right away. Love the Thai but I must admit the Vietnamese is my fave.
It's not like the typical Vietnamese food of beef noodle soup, or rice with some roasted meat. There's a wide variety of choices for both Thai and Viet food. It's so nice to have a change of the usual azn food.
For value you will struggle to beat Thu Thuy. The service is 100 metre sprint swiftness, they will have a bowl of peanuts, dusted with sugar and salt in front of you within seconds of being seated. It makes a pleasant change from the ubiquitous prawn crackers of similar joints. The service is not cloying and a mixture of quick smiles and efficiency. And you will find it a real pleasure to converse without having the neighbouring table on top of you. This is kind of rare in the jam-packed inner west world of Thai-Vietnamese restaurants.
Some places, like the adjacent restaurant, who do a very, very nice Salmon salad, might have similar spatial freedom but lack the comfy surrounds of this place. It is also a healthy Thai option, not leaking oil like a pipe. The flavours, without wanting to sound like a wanker, are subtle but novel enough to take you away from the grind of your usual dining existence. But it is the people here that make it, come back more than a couple of times and you feel like a part of the family. We like the Thai Beef Salad, you'll find you're own fave for sure !
Couldn't believe what happened that night. The address on the website had not been updated to the new address. I was so disappointed, they didn't even give me a discount. Food was ok but, more Thai likes...
Dropped in on the way to a course last week for a quick bite. Typical decor of many Asian restaurant but was happily surprised by the freshness of the food and the flavours. In fact, it must have been really good because we are going back tonight.
I've eaten here a couple of times and there's never been anything that remarkable about it - compared to Cabramatta or Bankstown offerings. Having been around to most of the other local Vietnamese establishments I've come to appreciate the offerings at Thu Thuy a lot more.
Went there last night and had - entree - fish cakes: right flavours, quite nice. Entree - rice rolls (banh cuon): one of my favourite dishes and it didn't dissappoint. No one else knew what to expect but it went down really quickly. The dressing was just right and wasn't too strong (of fish sauce). Done in good traditional style.
Entree - chicken in some leave: good flavour and texture.
Mains - sizzling beef: too much chillis. Sauce was nice. Mains - combination seafood: another sizzling dish. Again too much chillis. Good variety of seafood there. Mains - mixed vegetables with tofu: nice and subtle favours. Mains - Vietnamese chicken curry: very rich sweet curry which went well to soften the blow of the sizzling dishes.
All up the food is quite good quality. The servings were just right - I don't think anyone was left too hungry despite us really mopping up all the sauces. Props and decor will be very familiar to anyone who's wondered around tourist districts of Saigon for a day. The ambience is formal but relaxed. Service, though not always with a smile, is relaxed.
