Overview
Operating in Kingsford since 1996, Dong Dong Noodles has become a popular restaurant for families and friends, famous for serving fresh meals in a comfortable and friendly setting.
In 2007, we have started a new outlet in Hillsdale which we hope to provide easier access to customers across the Eastern suburb.
This restaurant is terrible and the hygiene standards leave a lot to be desired. If the health inspectors had of been in when we dined they would have failed it on the spot!
The fried rice is very average, and is their best dish that we tried. The salt and pepper 'King' prawns are tiny and served, strangely, on a mountainous bed of warm lettuce! The hand pepper beef was dreadful, we tried it once and didn't finish it. One of our group tried the noodles and when she didn't finish them they charged her for the take-away container! I've eaten all around the world and never been charged for a take away container.
While this is place is considered 'cheap', the food is really below average. Much better to spend a bit more somewhere else and enjoy what you eat rather than eat something that isn't very nasty and pay much more than what's it worth.
Finally, don't misintrepret this restuarant being busy as being good. There are loads of impoverished international students living in the area who eat here every night. Unless you are one of them with no money to spend, avoid this place like the plague!
I've been going to this restaurant very regularly for 5 years now. It's now my most visited restaurant ever. Why, service is always fast, food is very cheap and really good. We pretty much stick to the awesome hot pots and also combination noodle. All the hot pots are great. The san choy bow is good too and a big serve of 2 for about $8. Most dishes are around the $9-$12 mark. The noodle soup is great hangover cure, excellent stock.
The place is always full or at least busy, but there's usually a table because people eat and leave fairly fast here. Ambience, who cares, its not that kind of place.
edit April 09 - just discovered the Shan Tong/Shandong chicken, really really good!
I have both eaten in and had take away from this place many times. Last saturday we got take away from here after being at the swans game. We got the roast duck and some noodle dish. The duck was very very good, compares favourably with the best one I've tried from Campsie but the noodles were a bit disappointing, given that the word Noodles forms part of the establishment's name, not really good enough, bland and with celery bits and hardly any chicken at all.
Considering I asked for a noodles and meat dish (that I have had there previously and pointed to in the menu) I was seriously let down, I didn't see that it was not what I ordered until I got home! However, I am willing to forgive as it's pretty good value and mostly very good, service and listening skills need to improve.
Wow! It's my pleasure to compliment this awesome Chinese restaurant. If you look for the best Chinese noodle in the town, be sure to try out Dong Dong Noodle. Their foods (kwee tiaw, braised noodle, egg noddle, sporean noodle and even their roasted pork) never disappointed me! The waiters were very polite and helpful to even some very demanding costumers. In terms of value...I can't ask for anything cheaper than $16 for two delicious meals!
Summary:
- good place for quick meal
- fresh food
- fast service
- great value
Dong Dong is good for single dishes and mains. I particularly recommend salt and pepper chicken wings, pork chop with special sauce, combination bean curd for mains, and Dong Dong fried rice and wonton noodle soup for single dishes.
The only thing to stay away from is their entrees as they are virtually all pastry and no filling and hence very bland in flavour.
Service is quick but sometimes abrupt, and food comes quickly. The environment is similar to that of other busy, crammed Chinese restaurants in Kingsford, but I still think Dong Dong is a pretty good place to have cheap and cheerful Chinese food.
The food at Dong Dong is good (do they know what a dong is in English?) but not great. A bit 'same, same'. Services is OK, ambience sterile but you can't beat the value. For $25 between 2, you will walk away very, very full.
The New Dong Dong Noodles is really really good and tasty, the best place to have a nice winter noodle soup or just a normal everyday one. When I went there, the service was great. The food was absolutely great (even for kids). I recommend it!!!!!
Food served are big, hot and yummy. Friendly staff and prompt service. Never experience the toilet issue mentioned earlier by user 'argh' for the last 4 years of visiting. Definitely worth a try in the area. Must try: wonton soup, laksa (laska?), pepper and salt chicken wings...
This was the worst meal experience of my life! The toilet had overflowed and was spilling over the outside area and into the kitchen. It smelled so rank!!!!!
Food was below average with my boyfriend getting the honey king prawns and he only received maybe 8 prawns that were tiny definitely not king prawns on a bed of onions, nothing else just onions.
My meal was ok but the smell was so awful it just ruined my whole night. Definitely never go here again.
