Great food and service, very traditional and authentic. Found it a little overpriced but the servings were big, worked out to be around $50 each for 1 entree, 1 main, bread and corkage. Also could do with a little less dishes on the menu. Overall a good experience though and will be back to dine again.
A honest, perfect 10 in every category. I must say that this was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences that I have had in a long time.
I am so glad that I have found an Italian restaurant that serves Italian food the way it should. I had the Spinach and Ricotta Crepes for entree and the Gnocchi Gorgonzola for my main. I have never in my life, experienced such well made gnocchi. It melted in my mouth and was a taste sensation. The spinach and ricotta crepes were so soft and the filling was so creamy, tasty and light.
My dining companions had the Calamari, the mushrooms and the duck pappardelle for entree, which were all amazing. They had the pork belly, veal saltimbocca and the eye fillet for mains. There was not one complaint from our table about any aspect of the food.
I was impressed by the robust wine list which fantastic wines at quite reasonable prices. The floor staff were so helpful and unobtrusive. We will most definitely be back.
Very very poor quality food, old school service but tired. Heater not working (or maybe they wanted to save on energy cost). The only positive side was the large wine list at reasonable price. Won't bother coming back, I don't think it will improve any soon. Try few place on glebe point road instead. You may get lucky!
The wine was great as was the service. Food, unfortunately was decidedly under average and well overpriced. Starter was overcooked, dinner swimming in oil. I shouldn't have but I stayed for dessert and found it had not thawed properly in the centre. I'll not be returning.
My first visit to the Mixing Pot was for a celebratory graduation lunch (on a weekday) with family and it was perfect! The service was excellent, very European. We had professional, fast, thoughtful and discreet service from the 3 waiters serving our table. The food was very good, we ordered mainly from the specials available that day and was served quickly. The overall value was just excellent.
What a shame, we had a meal here with a group of 11 and we were sat upstairs which had none of the atmosphere that the reviews rave about. It felt a bit shabby generally. One meal turned up just after the starters but the rest took over 1 1/2 hours to arrive!! I think they simply forgot us! When we asked they made out that it was one of our diners fault for ordering a course which was a starter (steak!) and that's why they were waiting - then the story changed and yet no apology.
The food and wine were generally overpriced for the quality. There was a party at the table next to us whose children were running round our table and screaming so overall not a very good experience at all. Will not be going back when there are so many other fantastic places to eat in Glebe with better value and good service.
Our dining experience was perfect. I've been reading past comments regarding service etc and all I can say is, I think these guys took notice of whats be said about them. The service was fantastic, the food was lovely and well for $50 a couple which included the best herb/garlic bread I've ever tasted, I thought it wasn't over the top.
Lovely setting. The courtyard dining is absolutely exquisite. The service is excellent; all staffs were very friendly and have great knowledge about their food and wine. Fine dining has never been so enjoyable. It's wonderful.
The Mixing Pot has a hell of a history. It opened over 25 years ago and through the 80's was a very popular lunchtime haunt of inner west and outer city business folk. Then came the miserly Paul Keating and the introduction of Fringe Benefits Tax. The Mixing Pot like so many other restaurants lost up to 2/3 of their trade and through the recession nineties era they suffered badly.
In the mid to late nineties The Mixing Pot had a resurgence of popularity both with patrons and the critics. Even being awarded one toque by the SMH good food guide. Sadly The Mixing Pot in not what it was in the 80's or 90's. This is probably easily demonstrated by the vague reference to some "awards" on their website which really are just mentions in some of the broader and lesser known restaurant gazettes. It also lists it's inclusion in the SMH good food guide as an award.... can't help but think they are drawing a bit of a long bow there...
With regards to the food, I have eaten here four times in the past two years; the quality of the experience has declined at every sitting. Every time we've tried something different from the scallop linguine (scallops were off), to the freshly shucked oysters (warm pacific) to the duck pappardelle (stringy and overdone) to the rack of lamb (over done and dry). We even ordered an affogato the last time we were there and asked for an amaretto only to be told that they had run out...
It's really sad to see an old soldier like this fall to rack and ruin. The service was still good, and the fit out light and airy. But the food, its quality, preparation, cooking and delivery are well below average and the prices they are charging. It smacks of a restaurant that's struggling and is cutting costs to try and compete.
Unfortunately the sun is setting on The Mixing Pot and you could do a lot better elsewhere, after discussing this restaurant with some friend though they still think you can get a decent meal at The Mixing Pot, but to stick to Saturday nights when the food is fresh and the vibe is busy. So, if you are prepared to take a punt on hit and miss to have a walk down restaurant memory lane, give this old battler a go.
This was an old favourite of ours but after a recent visit I don't think we'll be regulars anymore. The food starters weren't too good especially the calamari that was not fresh but frozen then fried and didn't look too great when served up.
The main disappointment was the service, the staff are not warm and friendly in anyway and no apologies for an incorrect meal then a delay to cook the correct meal. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere but it is spoilt by the wait staff.
