The Pub looks good, the beer garden is nice, but the eating area looks like a uni cafeteria. I don't agree that kids should be allowed in pubs and usually there are several running amok ruining any chance of a peaceful beer and a feed.
We went along for the Monday night footy, and had a bite to eat. Ordered a beef rendang and a curry dish from the specials board. Both were really quite good, the Rendang being the standout, meat nice & tender and the sauce thick & complex in flavour, right amount of heat. Don't expect huge serves, they were just right, both served with steamed rice.
The menu looked quite complex, with the focus on Asian dishes. There were Thai, Malay, burger, steak and schnitzel options. Nice, clean, bright well-presented pub. And, the two curries came to $20.50, which ain't too bad these days!!
We go along once a month to the Golden Barley for the trivia and always enjoy the food. It’s pretty quick, cooked to order and tastes good! The portions are a decent size and reasonably priced. What more could you want – trivia, beer and good food!
Food is ok! I do trivia here most mondays so end up eating here too. The soups are not very exciting and a bit bland. The drunken noodles are ok. On the whole I feel the food is a bit over priced. If the meals were $8-10 I'd be happier with the food!
After hearing some great reveiws about the food here I thought I would head there for a meal. Singapore noodles were the blandest I have ever had. Laksa was OK but nowhere near as good as others I have had. It is my closest bar but I would not be back.
My local & what a top local it is. Its brilliant for the family as the kids all go for it out the back. The renovations have done wonders and the Malay / Thai food is great and much better than the normal burger and chips. Highly recommend the Barley to everybody.
Took the family back to check out the renovations. What a great night, something for everyone. Lots of different dishes to choose from so that kept everyone happy! We sat outside under the stars while the kids played on the grass - yes, real grass. Next time we will go there without the kids, we'll be able to finish the evening on the leather lounges in the new lounge area. Front bar is still the traditional bar we were used to and felt comfortabe in. A great pub to have as our "local".
Since it has been renovated, the outdoor area is fantastic though the interior dining room doesn't quite come off. You can grab a Harrys Cafe de wheels pie at the bar which is good. The restaurant is not bad but it really depends upon what you order. My problem is that it's all rice, or more specifically it's out of proportion to the dish. The Beef rendang was one of the best I have had for a while. The Singapore noodles were shocking. The Thai beef salad wasn't bad but they put a huge puddle of rice with it so there was only a little bit of salad. Maybe it's just me but salad and rice?? The Australian pub food is a better bet; good burgers and steak. Some good beers on tap, in particular Blonde however only Hardys wines which leaves us all drinking beer.
An aquired taste. You aquire it after you aquire kids! It's hard to find somewhere where you can relax and the kids can run around. Here is one. F&B is ok too.
Order the Rendang curry but get them to replace the rice with their Roti. It is delicious, filling and cheap, $9. Kids meals are $4.50 a pop and they have red lemonade on tap. For the over 18s they have the St. Peters Blonde which is a trully lovely beer, don't forget to ask for a slice of lemon. If wine is more to your flavour, you actually buy it in the bottle shop, their idea not mine, and they supply glasses. Got kids, give it a try.
