We had planned to go to The Clay Pot for some time and finally booked a table for five there last week. Taking guests to a restaurant that hasn't been tried before is a little tricky but despite a couple of bad reviews we gave it a go. Glad we did.
The food was great and in generous proportions. Though the restaurant was full we did not have to wait for mains, in fact timing between all courses was very complimentary to a relaxed evening and the service was attentive. Though we do not usually order desserts those on the menu looked too tempting to ignore and we were certainly not disappointed! Coffee though was, perhaps, not to the same standard as the meal but all in all a very enjoyable dining experience.
I can't rate the food here poorly enough. We were tempted by the sound of the Mezedes mixed entree meal and were bitterly disappointed. The food lacked any taste whatsoever, tasteless feta the standout along with meatballs which tasted so bad my girlfriend wouldn't touch it. The Lamb Centrepiece was chewy and inedible sitting in a sauce of oily slightly tomoto-ey sauce. Food like that makes you appreciate how good real greek food is, by setting such a low benchmark.
Me and my husband has been here once and we liked it, want to come back again and try other things. We ordered the haloumi cheese for entree that had grilled veges underneath and it was so mouth-watering, I was tempted to order another serving! Then we had the mains, I had meatballs with rice and tomato sauce, it was ok, but the meat was very dry, and eventually I ran out of sauce, and started getitng some sauce from my husbands clay pot, he had ordered a lamb dish with potato and veges, no rice, and was in a saucy broth, I found his sauce to be very tasty, but a little disappointed with my dish. I have made tastier meatballs at home myself.
I returned to the clay pot after a very memorable first time last year and wasn’t disappointed. The mix platter for 2 goes a long way and can be shared with 6 if needed. The lamb was great as usual and overall it was another nice experience which I will definitely revisit. It was a Friday night and we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t as noisy as last time. Well done!!
I found this restaurant in the entertainment book and decided to try it out, and I was not disappointed. The food was fantastic, especially the mixed entree platter. All meals cooked in the claypots were great, all 4 of us fully enjoyed our meals. The staff were friendly and service was prompt. I enjoyed the Claypot experience and am looking forward to returning.
The staff here are very attentive! Always smiling and nothing was too much trouble for them. Dishes were big and hearty, especially the claypots. We had the lambshanks and the meat just fell off the bones! The mixed entree was also great to taste all the varieties. It was a bit pricey but given the portions it wasn't too bad.
Biiterly disappointed. I have head good things about the Claypot and decided to venture up Gordon way for what I hoped to be a nice dining experience.I was met with disinterested staff and a sterile atmosphere. The food was mediocre but I already had a bad taste before my first mouthful. They must put their second rate wait staff on during the week. Steer clear and save your money.
Arrived on a Monday night for a nice meal and catchup with friends. The restaurant had 2 other tables and us. Whilst ordering, our waitress was pushy in making us order more dishes, telling us that the amount we ordered was not going to be enough. The entrees were average, we shared the haloumi cheese and calamari rings.
For mains we ordered the lamb shanks, tomato and fish claypots to share. Our waitress had already warned us of a half hour wait for the claypots. However, after we had savoured all our mains expect for the fish, we politely enquired whether the fish was coming, hoping that we could cancel it as we were all quite full. Our enquiry was met with a rather abrupt, "you ordered your mains at 8:05, it has only been an hour, I think that is rather good if you ask me".
There was no apology or even "it's on its way" as I would expect from any respectable restaurant. She proceeded to tell us the first fish claypot was burnt, surely a restaurant that is only one quarter full can make sure dishes are not burnt, an amateurs mistake!
The prices were also overly expensive, on average mains were $30, what I would expect from a hat restaurant. I would not return to claypot as the value and service were extremely poor. Perhaps, they should need to go on "the Chopping block" for some help in how to run a good restaurant.
