If you're heading to The Basement to see a show, the only way to do it is to book a dinner for table...otherwise you'll be standing around the edges of the room for the whole thing. That said, I was expecting terrible food which should be avoided at all costs but it was actually very good.
The pate was lovely and the chicken medallions quite tasty (although mainly stuffing). The food is overpriced for what you get but you're really paying for the use of the table for the night and that's what makes it a good deal. Will definitely do it again.
I've done the dinner & show several times with last saturday nite (bodacious Cowboys- a great 'knock off' Steely Dan band' the latest one). The reason I keep coming back is for the great table seat one gets when one books the show and certainly not for the dinner.
That being said the dinner is not all 'slop & grub' it's at least in the 'edible' category- but don't come with high expectations of a 'top quality' meal.. It's a choice of 4 items of entree & main course - but pass on the flavour lacking char grilled steak. Only because of the quality table seating & drink service too -(cocktails are outstanding) it sure beats standing like a dill at the bar jostling amongst others to see the show..
I did the dinner & show package last saturday night to watch prof groove. It's excellent value when you combine the dinner/show as it's very reasonable for a night out, and you have a good selection of starters & mains to pick from. You also have waiter service re your drinks for the whole night so if you choose to come here, wait for an act you like and do the dinner/show combination ticket. I really liked chargrilled steak, I have no idea what cut it was but it was excellent.
I've done the dinner and show package several times and it's the only way to go. I usually order some type of vegetarian pasta, and a few different favoured ice creams for dessert. Actually, it's not bad value for money opting for the dinner and show. The dinner seating is right in front of the stage, so that's an added bonus.
I am a huge fan of the dinner and show package. The thing that stands out the most is the service factor. You pretty much get table service all night regarding drinks so you don't really have to leave your seat besides the odd toilet stop.
The food in general is quite good. The presentation is great and as the review suggested below the timing of everything is perfect. Most shows start at 930-10pm so by commencing the first course at 7.30pm you finished with the meals by about 9.15pm which is perfect. I wouldn't hesistate to do the dinner + show thing again, I have done it time and time again.
Before going for dinner and a show here, I read the review below and was worried that the food would be dodgy and I would regret having forked out for the table. But actually, we had a great night - the food is really good. Sure, it's nothing super fancy but it was well-prepared and tasty and the serves were substantial. The service was really attentive and our table was cleared by the time the band came out. I will definitely do the dinner and show deal again - it's so much more civilised than standing at this always-packed out venue.
Lets get it straight here, you go to the Basement for the best music going around town. The fact that they serve food there to provide a dinner and show service is great. Whilst it's not 5-Star food, it's more than adequate. It's all good, I keep coming back for dinner and shows, that's for sure.
We have done dinner and the show a few times, drawn by the show and not the food. That kinda says it all. The food is like a roller coaster. We thought there for a while it was improving but maybe we just had too much wine. Last week it was as close to inedible as you can get. But it is nice to get a table - very expensive table.
