This gastro pub has great and simple food, chicken tagine with chickpeas was yummy but it's downfall has got to be the service. The 2 boys who were 'serving' us were so aloof and we kept having to yell out for them to actually top up our wine and to order our meals. Yummy and incredibly rich desserts, creme brulee, sticky date pudding. But the service was so average (they didn't even bother to help us with suggestions), I would be reluctant to head back in a hurry.

I tend to agree with the review below. It wasn't the worst meal I've eaten, but it was over-salted, the service was a bit aloof, and the room doesn't have much of a vibe either.

I have been to this venue quite a few times since its face lift, and I had the strange felling, it may of been the start of a love affair. But like all love affairs the rose coloured glasses can only stay on for so long.

The service has gone from knowledgable, friendly, and sincere, to boring, uninterested, and uninformed. The food was once creative and fresh, now its salt laden slop. And the ambiance, what ambiance. I would recommend a wide berth, Darlinghurst can provide much better than this.

I just came back from our anniversary at the village restaurant. I was a bit sceptical at the start since I've never heard about it before. Let me start that the food was amazing! I had the beef tongue as entrée, and it's one of the best ones I've ever had in Sydney. The Wyagu was great and the desert (some kind of peanut butter with popcorn was outstanding!). The service was great. Very few places has given us service as this restaurant did. We got complementary desert wine and a desert to try. Village Restaurant: Keep it up and you'll more and more popular! thank you for making our special evening so good!

Went here over the weekend with my partner. Had seen reviews regarding the venue on another site and was a bit skeptical. The experience was absolutely amazing. The staff was attentive and very informative about the menu. We both started with the scallop and chicken entree. The flavors were wonderful and a good start to the night. Following this, I had the kingfish and my partner had the wagyu steak. Both cooked perfectly. It was a great surprise when you weren't expecting too much, and I'd definitely go back again.

I was curious to visit the Village Restaurant, as it was "date night" and the reviews were so good. This really is a terrific find. The food was outstanding. I could not fault it and I've eaten in many wonderful places. There was attention to detail in everything. At the same time, I said to my partner that I felt like I was in a friend's apartment, as the atmosphere was so relaxed. Relaxed, not casual - in a positive way. Mick, our waiter, was wonderful. He was friendly and professional. He clearly knew what he was talking about. We will be going back. This restaurant deserves to become a real winner.

Amazing things have been done to this place in recent times, fantastic service, amazing food and great views, congratulations to whoever took over and made the tremendous change.

I've little to add to the other reviews. The food is excellent, beautifully cooked combinations of flavour, well presented. Excellent attentive wait staff. The desserts were delicious while avoiding the over-sweetness which is the besetting sin of many Sydney restaurants. Highly recommended. The food is top class at middle of the road prices.

One word can describe this place. "Fabulous". The food was presented like an artwork, the flavours were divine and the service was gorgeous. Not only was the food some of the best I've tasted in Sydney for a long time but the waiters were an absolute pleasure not to mention good looking. I was tempted with desert but the waiters were sweet enough. I highly recommend this place to anyone.
