Up until now I have been searching for a late night cafe serving a decent coffee and I finally found one. When I took a seat, I wasn't really expecting much. There's nothing special about the design, the atmosphere or the food, but the buzz of George street on a Friday night and the coffee more than compensated.
Serving a Vittoria roast was initially a turn off, but I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted my first coffee. My Latte was smooth, full-flavoured and consistent from my first sip till my last. The aroma was comforting, milk and grind were just right. I enjoyed it so much I felt the need to thank their barista.
This definitely has to be the best late night coffee I have ever had. I highly recommend trying this place out.

No complaints about The Rocks Cafe. Food was delicious, fairly well priced, staff was very attentive and welcoming, and the vibe through the restaurant was very relaxing and calm. I loved it! :)

Cake prices hard to swallow. Charging $15 for a piece of cake is outrageous, No wonder it’s the only thing on the menu without a price. Given the size of the slice, these clever folk are charging as much for a whole carrot cake as you could pay for a wedding cake. Take a walk down the road, A delicious cake will cost you around five to seven dollars. I almost choked when I received the bill and asked if it was a mistake. They said "it's correct, you have to understand how much the rent is". I've paid similar prices for dessert at some of the best restaurants in Sydney, this wasn't one of them.

Have been a few times (day and night) and the service cannot be better. The food is nothing flash but is well presented, tasty and dependable. I have often, and will often, use this as my fall back venue for a good meal when my fanciful ideas of: "trying something new" fall flat due to my poor planning and it has never let me down.
My only problem is that the coffees are 50 cents too expensive - but it's the Rocks; so I should expect that.

As we arrived at the cafe another family was following behind, one of whom had a baby in a pram. The waitress asked if we would mind taking a table upstairs so that the mother with the pram could have the table at which we were about to be seated.
We went upstairs, sat down and waited. Ten minutes passed. A waitress came along and cleared a table. Another few minutes passed and two further groups took tables. None of us were served. Finally two waitresses came upstairs. By this time it was all too late. When I asked to speak with the senior staff, the waitress told me that she was the senior staff. I explained what had happened and said I was surprised that after being asked to give up our table downstairs that we were given no service upstairs.
The senior staff was at a loss for words. It really isn't good enough Rocks Cafe. I wouldn't recommend you to anyone, least of all a visiting tourist. They would be appalled by the lack of service and total disinterest in the customer.

I just wanted to reply to Mr. "too fussy". I am a regular customer at the Rocks Cafe and they don't have any courtyard. I think your review is regarding the gum tree cafe, right behind the rocks cafe, by the way, I love spending time with my friends there for dinner or even just for coffee and those exquisite cakes they have. Highly recommend this place to family and friends.

Me and my husband definitely recommend this place! We came for lunch and received some of the best service we have had for ages. Friendly and efficient waitresses and barstaff and thats before I mention about the fantastic food!
I had the chicken curry and it was truly delicious, and was well presented. My husband had the beef burger, and the portion size was great. We didn't have to wait too long for our food and were impressed by the lovely presentation of the coffees, definitely a plus. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting the rocks, a charming little establishment.

We went for breakfast and I was a bit disappointed to have a raising toast that looked like something that just came out of a plastic bag and was burnt. My partner had bacon and eggs and although the bacon was fine the eggs were one overcooked and one undercooked.
The environment was very nice though, we were in the courtyard, the sun was shining after some rain and two lorrekes were flying among tables and stopping on the fence for some crumbs! Probably more a place for tourists than for locals, but the overall experience was not completely bad!

I went in for breakfast and ordered the Salmon Hash Benedict. The only part that was any good was the egg on top, the rest was horrible. The potato was undercooked and dry with very little salmon. The service was a bit hostile. I will admit that it was a Sunday morning however the staff were not very "warm"... you could tell the that the staff really didn't enjoy being there. Maybe my words are a little harsh, however for the price paid I am very disappointed.

Their menu seems to change all the time! They must still be looing for the right image, hahah! For me it’s a good spot for a quick catch up after work. More quiet than any other local pub which makes it good if you want to talk to someone. Good for a beer and snack. Sandwiches and burgers are fine too.
