Overview of The New Dong Dong Noodles
Operating in Kingsford since 1996, Dong Dong Noodles has become a popular restaurant for families and friends, famous for serving fresh meals in a comfortable and friendly setting.
Strange little restaurant on anzac pde. Very small so often cramped full at lunchtime. Nothing fancy with plastic spoons and chopsticks but actually better sorted decor than some 'fancy' places.
Very good dumpling soup (suey gow) which they make on premises (ie the dumplings are made 'in the window' by hand). Haven't had such a good one since going to the old Hingara. One of their specialties is fried chicken wings which come in two different styles. Caution, very hot and if you're hungry the temptation can lead to burnt fingers! Have enjoyed the pork in plum sauce and salt and pepper squid.
Interesting vegetable dishes, like chinese mushroom and bukchoy which is appropriately bland and, therefore, offsets the tastier dishes. They have some strange 'milky' teas that are popular with some southern chinese but I haven't tried one yet. The staff are busy and usually helpful. Quick service and not expensive. Wouldn't recommend it for special occasion but for quick cheap meal great value.
I came here for a quick dinner. We ordered the roast pork with egg noodles and seafood dumplings with egg noodles. Both the dishes weren't up my my expectation. The egg noddles were overcooked, not as crunchy and al dante as it was supposed to be. The dumplings were nice but it would be much better if those dumplings were served in the soup inside of on top of the dried egg noodles as the dumpling wraps were all stucked together.
The servings were massive. Another thing that I did not like was a few pieces of seafood, calamari, fish cake slices, and fish that were served with the noodle. They just looked like it has been boiled and served on top of the noodles. I won't go there again.
Went here today for the first time for lunch. The food was great. I enjoyed the shredded duck noodle soup, it was delicious. And what great value! I will be going back.
Always very polite. Authentic Chinese style noodles and chicken. Extremely delicious. Should be in 5-star hotels' restaurant food. I love it. Excellent ambience and wonderful food. Positively brilliant on the whole! All style chicken, braised and fried wing. Also delicious spring rolls, crunchy, crisp and fresh to the scent.
Yummy beef brisket hot pot, nothing beats it!
Had dinner here lastnight, Thai chilli seafood with rice consisted of a large plate of rice, 2 x prawns, 4 x pieces of squid, 4 x small pieces of Basa fillet, and lots of onions. At $11 it's woeful value. Had a side plate of char siew (BBQ pork) which was very salty due to the soy sauce. Mum had a bowl of roast duck and wonton egg noodle soup, apparently very nice.
Definitely a noodle soup place only. Very quiet night but next door at Kingsford Chinese it was full house.
I've been going to this restaurant very regularly for 7 years . It's now my most visited restaurant ever. Why? .. service is always fast, food is very cheap and for the most part really good. We pretty much stick to the awesome hot pots and also combination noodle. All the hot pots are great. The san choy bow is good too and a big serve of 2 for about $8.
Most dishes are around the $9-$12 mark. The noodle soup is great hangover cure, excellent stock. I have had the odd below par meal there but 95% of the time it's great. Ambience, who cares, its not that kind of place.
Edit April 09, just discovered the Shan Tong/Shandong chicken, really really good!
