Great to be able to talk to the chef about the buffet. Food was well presented, prepared fresh and tasty. I was expecting the standard "hotel" buffet but was pleasantly surprised at the quality offered. Nice place and the next time I go I will definitely explore the a la carte menu. Good service, friendly and willing. Clean, hospitable and worth checking out.

I went to the Christmas in July nights back in, er, July! I took my family as a mid-year treat. There were 5 of us in total. The food was okay, but I was expecting Christmas style food. I also wanted a seafood buffet, and although the oysters and prawns were good, it wasn't really a seafood extravanganza. That was pretty much it for seafood. As to salads... what salads?

Roast turkey, or pork, or something Christmassy? Nothing. Instead were a selection of Asian-mush dishes. This was not what was expected and not what was advertised on their website. Desserts looked good, but as I didn't get to these early enough in the night, most were gone by the time I got up (only about 8.30 pm) and they were not replaced. Again, this was not as expected.

I was looking for a decent seafood buffet to have as a regular event. I tend to return often to places that have impressed me. That will be the one and only time at The Grove, Stamford Plaza Hotel. Oh- another little bug-bear: the partking beneath the hotel is all 'double-spaced.' That is, when we arrived for an early dinner at 6.30 pm, we parked facing the wall. When we went to leave at 9 pm, we had been parked in by someone else.

It was a requirement for anyone 'parking anyone else in' to leave their keys at the front desk. Unfortunately, our 'parking-buddy' had not done this. The staff at the hotel didn't give us any feedback as to what was happening and why it was taking so long to get us out of their carpark. It took more than 25 minutes to get out of there. Not happy.

I went to The Grove and I loved it. The food, the ambience, just everything about it was great.

What a terrible dining experience at The Grove. We picked the Friday seafood lunch buffet according to their website. When I made the booking, the receptionist concurred that they have a lunch seafood buffet, which they do not. Customers do not appreciate being lied to.

There was one fish dish which was deep-fried to petrified. The hot dishes were all cold, tough, greasy and obviously reheated. It was terrible food that looked and tasted like glug. We should have left but we gave it a chance because we had come a long way.

Food was presented in high standard, fresh and tasty. I was expecting a little less but got more than I expected. Nice place and the next time I go will definitely explore the menu a little. Good service, friendly and assuring. Clean and hospitable. House specials are quite valuable.

The ambience in this place is brilliant, the piano player was just fantastic, he had a fantastic voice and played a huge variety of different songs. The service was just second to none, the staff are so friendly and helpful. The seafood buffet was lovely. I can't say much about the hot buffet, it was terrible, all the dishes, and not much selection, looked dried out and something poured from a tin can. The hot chicken dish I tried looked like a can of whiskas cat food mixed with a bit of gravy.

I will go back if the hot menu improves thats the only thing they need to get right.

    Everything else was perfect.

My drink wasn't even properly made, ordered a cocktail tasted like straight lemon juice. Glad iI ordered a la carte as buffet looked dried up and quite disgusting. Some staff nice.

After much prodding from friends, I finally went for the seafood buffet and what a surprise I got. Fresh bugs, crabs, oysters and prawns. There is no one to elbow when you go to the spread..you can stand there for ages pondering where and when to start the gluttony.

The hot food is an ordinary fare and avoid the roast. My own Sunday roast tastes muchos better. Dessert - avoid every single thing and head directly to the creme brulee. In fact, have 3. The service is efficient and the staff attentive. If only the 5 star hotels knew how Stamford trains their hospitality staff.
