We went to Thai Riffic for lunch a few days ago and there wasn't a person insight, so I walked over to the bar area and asked for a table. We ordered our entree and mains, entree wasn't all that great.
2 out of the 3 mains were cold and when we got the waiter to check it out he tried to convince us that it wasn't cold. Then offered to have the chef check it out. The same food was reheated and served back to us. One knows Not to reheat seafood!
My main was warm, however, there was no flavour! If you're looking for an authentic Thai restaurant, This Is Not The Place. Food is horrid, service is very poor and the price is a bit much for what you get during lunch.

A long time ago, this place used to be good. The decor is still nice, and they do sometimes use nice ingredients in their meals, but The last three times I have been here have been more than disappointing, and I won't be going back.
a) chicken was raw
b) asked for soda water, was given a 750 mL bottle that costed me nearly $10. A bit much for one person, don't you think? Particularly since the only other person dining with me had just asked for a coke. They were sure to open the entire bottle before bringing it to the table to ensure I didn't have a chance to say no.
c)the banquet was more expensive than ordering a single meal, and quantity and quality of food was less
There is much better and more affordable Thai to be found on King St.

I took my friends and family out for lunch, we booked the restaurants, when we called to confirm, our booking didn't exists. However, we re-booked and also pre-booked our dishes, a day before. We go there the next day, and I asked the guy if I can order satay chicken, he said yes and I asked how many in one serve, he replied 8, than I said ok, can I order two, when he bought the satay out, he than said, oh now we give 6, instead of 8.
I was really angry, as he told me it was 8 and than he gave us only 6 on them, I am extremely unhappy with the service, as they was only two staff, who were quite rude and unhelpful, and the restaurant was empty and they didn't bother to look after us at all, I pre-ordered everything, but food didn't come all together, we had to wait for the food, plus I had to keep on calling them to serve us with the pre-ordered drinks and food status.
The food lacked taste as they put so much of cream in it and the serving are baby size, which wouldn't feed an adult, I had to order more food, which was very pricey, and they was 16 of us. I will never go to this restaurant ever again in my life, please guys don't get deceived by the nice environment of the restaurant as you will only be disappointed and ashamed, as I am in front of my friends and family.
The food is very pricey, and not worth the value or the serving size, I than took my family and friends out to another cafeteria to feed them the rest of the afternoon, to remove my guilt. I ended up spending double the amount I saved.

Came here on a voucher deal, food was pretty good, and since there was a larger group we ordered extra dishes. Standout dish of the night was soft shell crab.
Have been here a few times and massaman lamb shanks are always a winner!

Arrived for a quick lunch today, both of us ordered Thai salads, one beef other chicken and paid $18.90 each and were such small serves! Very disappointing, flavours were ok but not great. Ordered prawn cakes $14.90 as entree and they were literally only 4 prawns deep fried. Nothing special, you can get a lot better a few shops either way in King St, much better value. Much better smiley service. Guess why there were only 8 people in the restaurant for lunch!

My family ate at this restaurant this evening when we celebrated an important event. Food and service were quite OK but I was seated at table 85 upstairs right in front of an air conditioner which was blowing freezing air right in my face. I drew this problem to the attention of our waiter who asked a manager for assistance. After they played with the remote for a few minutes I was told that there was nothing they could do about it. I would have to put up with it! So I zipped up my jacket tight around my neck and continued eating. Funny but the others at my table were just outside of the icy blast and were not really affected.
As we were getting up to leave, the waiter suddenly reappeared and told us he was about to turn off the air con which he did. Suddenly the air temp returned to normal and I enjoyed the last few minutes of our dinner there. Moral of the story is that people who can cook good food are not always customer focused in other ways. Very disappointed to sit there frozen for over an hour when there was such a simple remedy right at hand. Will I go back there? Nah. They blotted their copy book badly tonight and there are plenty of other Thai eateries around.
Response from Management:
Hi Ronny,

Thank you for visiting Thai Riffic Newtown.
We are disappointed that you did not have a great experience with us.
We have recently upgraded our air condition system to get ready for summer, and we are becoming familiar with the system and it settings.
We would like to apologise for this and hope you return.

Thanks.

Service was extremely poor here and the food was also generic and lacking any kind of imagination. Over rated and over priced. Will not be returning here.

On first impressions of this place, it was very modern and the people were very nice and friendly. A friend was celebrating her birthday and had booked a table which was upstairs, they told us to go there without even knowing where the way to upstairs was! Finally after looking around and climbing up a narrow set of stairs we were seated with the rest of the party, we ordered drinks and settled on the banquet menu which sounded good as we got to have a little bit of everything. Looking around the restaurant and at the decor gave a very cosy traditional feel.
Then it got bad. The drinks we ordered had to be asked for twice, the food didn't come out until 40 minutes later and everything else after that was still late and inadequate timing. The food was great, but having to continuously ask for our food and drinks and being told that "it'll be out soon" was no help whatsoever. Appalling and disappointing service for good food brings the rating of this restaurant down for me.
Response from Management:
Hi,

The night you had is not what we expect from our team at Newtown.
We have looked into the situation and adjusted some of our procedures to hopefully avoid similar situation.
I would like to discuss your situation with you personally please email me manager@thairifficnewtown.com.au

Thanks.

First time visitor to Thai Riffic in King Street Newtown and found the food very nice and tasty. Service was a little slow but it was lunchtime so was to be expected. Overall would recommend it as a great lunch venue.

Had dinner here a couple of nights ago with some friends. It's a nice looking restaurant with a good atmosphere, and the food was good, service was polite and quick. Standout dishes were the veg red curry and the garlic pepper squid.
