A firm believer in service being first priority, this place does not fail here from the moment you arrive to having your glass filled with water the entire service. Good service costs nothing but goes a long way. On top of this the food is fantastic and reasonably priced.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. We went for a family dinner, the staff were helpful, accommodating and prompt with the orders for the younger members of our party. The food tastes amazing, not greasy or chewy as can happen in a lot of Thai places and came out all together. It is a really busy, popular restaurant, so absolutely book in advance!

Easily the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to. I have been many times now, and have never been let down. The food is very tasty, cooked beautifully, service is incredible (I challenge you to attempt to dish yourself a spoon of rice before a waiter comes from no-where to dish it for you), and yes, it is a bit noisy, but that adds to the atmosphere and excitement of dining out.
I disagree with the 'bit pricey' comments of some reviewers. Because servings are so generous, we order soup (Tom Yum mushroom or vege coconut soup are beautiful) and an entree or 2 to share and then with main if there are 2 people you can share 1 dish, 3 people share 2 dishes etc. Penang Beef is best you will ever find. A great place to take people but make sure you book!

This is the best restaurant I have ever been to! The service is second to none, the manager goes out of his way to check that everyone is happy and satisfied! I have never been treated so well in a restaurant before. The food is delicious and I will definitely be returning!

Amazing service. Great food. The prawns with coconut and chilli sauce is something I order every time. Very friendly, noisy atmosphere. the whole place is filled with some nice tacky Thai decor stuff. Been here three times in the last month. For Thai food, it is a little pricey, but worth it.

Taken there for my birthday last week (Feb 2009) and found the food much higher class than your average Thai restaurant. Much care been taken both with preparation and presentation. It was obvious that the waiters, who were particularly attentive, had been trained well and not simply taken off the street as one might find in many eateries.
How often do you ask a waiter a question, he answers it and then returns to his walk-around without clearing plates that you have finished with? He has to do this eventually anyway, but many just don't think. This was not the case at Thai Pothong, they all knew what they were doing. Highlight (most embarrassing) was ten waiters in a semi-circle singing me Happy Birthday. Cringe!
But on to the food. For entrees we had Vegetarian Chicken, Satay Chicken and a Tofu dish. Delicious! Mains were Massaman Beef (done to a tender perfection!), Red Duck Curry and a Vegan Plate. No complaints with any!
The standards here are high, but the restaurant falls down in one area (and here it is not alone). The ambient noise is diconcerting and makes it hard to hear others at your table. All they need to take the ambience from 3-star to a 5-star is sound-absorbing drapes or carpets or whatever.
The waiters took a photo of my little group and I thought no more about it. However, I was surprised to find that they had also taken the trouble to email the photo to us the next day! A little pricier than the norm but then you get what you pay for. I would return anytime!

Big and brassy joint with 'upmarket Thai' decor, i.e a bit tacky, but great food, good service and a bit pricey.

This isn't your run of the mill Thai, it takes it to a new level. If planning a visit I suggest you book a table as this place can have a line out the door. The decor is appealing and there is a high noise level from the masses of people enjoying their food. The service is attentive and the waitstaff look after you very well, ensuring you always have a full glass and everything is ok.
The food comes out quick and the taste is amazing. Lamb massaman and BBQ pork are amongst my favorites. But the Soft shell crab salad is also a hit. Portions are fair and you won't be leaving with an empty stomach. The pricing is higher than you would expect for Thai but for the taste and service you are definitely getting value for money.
Many people have birthday dinners etc here and kick on to the surrounding pubs. A great place to start your night or get a meal in the middle of a bender.

As a Thai restaurant, Thai Pothong is quite expensive. But the food is with good standard. You shouldn't be disappointed. I ordered the Tom Yum Kung with Prawn, this is so far the best Tom yum Kung I had so far, though my husband thought that it is not spicy enough, but it is just right for me. Thai food are normally quite spicy, if you can't have too spicy food, Thai Potong maybe a good choice, the favours are rich but seems they put less chilli. For the curries, we order red curries, which is quite good too. Dessert are really expensive, e.g Mango sticky rice costs 13.9 which in Chat Thai or other Thai restaurant normally are 7.5.
Overall, it is a good choice, but probably there are many cheaper alternatives which are nice too.
