The King St, Newtown restaurant strip is blessed with many Thai restaurants, a few of outstanding quality, and this is one of them.
We've been coming here regularly for many years - I'm not sure why I haven't added a review yet, probably because it's always packed and therefore doesn't need any other recommendation.
My latest favourite is the seafood served hot inside a whole coconut. Service is fantastic and I really appreciated the birthday treat they put on for a friend a few years ago. A very nice selection of erotic art in the passage leading to the toilets.
The only downside is that it is very noisy - best to get one of the few tables near the window if you can manage it (looking across to the famous 'I have a dream' street art). The food is not cheap, but taking into account quality and the high standard of service, you can't really fault value for money. A very successful restaurant, and one that fully deserves its success.

I've been to Thai Patong so many times that I've lost count. I've also paid a visit to their new restaurant in Marrickville, it is much smaller and not as noisy.
The food at both places is just fantastic! The service is as always, exceptional. I love having lunch and dinner here quite often, I've been to so many other Thai restaurants, but this one is my absolute favorite, as long as they keep going, I'll keep going.

This place is great for a feed, however I notice that it was quiet pricy with the serving of the size of the food is small. you can never fault the service. Great team of staff, however food has gone down in quality.

An absolutely great restaurant in Newtown. Spacious, clean and decor is very 'Thai', without being tacky or too over the top. The food here is flavoursome and much more authentic than some other Thai restaurants i've been too. Pricing is a tad more expensive, but really worth it.
The one factor that turned a great dinner into a fantastic night, was no doubt, the service. Although very busy, the staff were exceptional. They knew exactly what we needed, before we even knew we needed it. We never once had to pour our own wine nor ask for more rice. And above all, they were very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend and will definitely continue to come back.

I stumbled recently on this hidden gem in Newtown. After living in Sydney my whole life, I can't believe I never tried this restaurant before. The decor is extremely authentic with Thai artwork, sculptures, and majestic lamps creating a magical environment for a dinner or birthday party. It is probably the largest Thai restaurant in Australia, and there's reason why.
The staff are attentive and give exceptional service, the food is amazing and a notch above all the usual Thai restaurant, and the wine list and food selection caters for every taste. I highly recommend this restaurant as one of the best Asian food restaurants in Sydney. Great for birthdays, parties and functions. Awesome!

I have been to this restaurant a few times. The food is great, the service is friendly and quick, with a waiter watching your table from afar. I've found, if you happen to need more rice on your plate, they are always there to serve you more.
I enjoy the Red Duck Curry dish. Just a great fress, a bit spicy but very yummy! For those with some dietary issues, the venue offers a dairy free and gluten free menu. Thai Pothong is up there in a very competitive food area.

The service is really good, and the food is ok. A bit on the expensive side for thai food though.

There may be a dozen or more Thai restaurants on King St but Thai Pothong is always my number 1 choice. I've been here for dinner with my boyfriend on numerous occasions, as well as larger gatherings with friends and family. The service is always fantastic and the food has never disappointed.
Our favourite dishes by far would be: Seafood Hor Mok Talay - Best HMT I've ever had. Miang Goong - try it if you haven't! BBQ Pork - delicious.
The banquets are a great option for a big group, the food arrives quickly and is plentiful, you won't leave hungry! It's not the cheapest but it's certainly my pick for Thai on King St.
