The cuisine at Tetsuya's is based on the Japanese philosophy of using natural seasonal flavours and enhancing it by using classic French technique. Tetsuya's is a serene dining enclave in the city. The three main dining areas overlook an exquisite Japanese garden. There are also private rooms for larger groups, and a bar at which guests may enjoy a pre-dinner drink before meals. Tetsuya's boasts of five private dining rooms which can comfortably accommodate between ten and sixty guests.

Third time at Tetsuyas for my wife and I, and the experience was fantastic as before.
The menu has changed this year and we both had mixed reactions to the changes. I actually missed a lot of the older dishes, and was not so keen on a couple of the new ones (perhaps, it's just an untrained palate, but the abalone did little for me). My wife, however, loved all of the new dishes and was actually glad to see that the spatchcock was no longer in the lineup (was not her favourite). She particularly like the Black Angus, despite having a preference for the seafood end of the menu.
My only other comment would be that I missed the Daikon in the rework of the trout as I thought the texture contrast was pretty integral to the dish. Booked in again for the end of the year and looking forward to that just as much.

5 bread rolls at a Japanese restaurant? That's so you don't ring up and complain that you stopped at McDonalds on the way home. Try eating here without the bread rolls and see how you feel on the way home. Ha Ha! 5 star for people with tummy bands. If you like snooty precious places you will probably love this one.

I hate to admit that my favourite restaurant in the universe has now disappointed me. Its my 4th time at Tets but there's been 8 years since the last magical night. Maybe you can just never recreate magic and memories. Went with the same group of people and we all agreed, it just isn't that fabulous anymore.
Perhaps, the food isn't keeping up with current trends, perhaps, the long winded explanations of ingredients in each dish is a bit old hat, perhaps, alot of the dishes owe more to modern Aus than to Tetsuya's Japanese roots. Perhaps, you just don't get the same taste sensations you once did from the dishes, even the signature trout confit has changed but not for the better. Or, perhaps, there are too many pretender restaurants doing alot of what Tetsuya used to do uniquely so our taste buds expect more these days of his team.
Or, perhaps, its just that the man himself clearly wasn't there that night, he normally greets each table and wasn't seen that Tuesday. One thing's for sure, the mature female waitress we had was somewhat haughty and not warm at all, thats not good. Have to say though the rest of the younger front of house are still wonderful.
I'm sure if its your first experience of Tetsuyas you will have an incredible and ludicrously expensive night. If you've been before its doubtful you'll be as amazed.

Superb. Perfect for a small special occasion. Last time we were there we mentioned something we had enjoyed on a previous visit. It was not on the menu that night, but later it just arrived, they had made it for us. Beautiful service. Expensive.

I have been to this restaurant 3 times, the first 2 times were an absolute experience and fantastic time, I thought everything was perfect, original, and couldn't wait to go back, but, my 3rd and last time was very disappointing. I thought the food was not as great as it used to be with some very disappointing dishes and flavours, even the service was not as good as before, we waited an extremely long time between some dishes it took us all together about 4 hours, you expect to have a long dinner but the waiting was way too long or way to quick.
It is much more "commercial" than it used to be in every way, I brought some friends from overseas and regret it, unfortunately, I will say to this point I sadly won't go back, I don't think it deserves a Three Chef's Hats anymore .

Having waited for eight months for our booking to come up, we were pretty excited about finally dining at Tetsuya’s. We both had the thirteen course degustation menu and my friend also had the accompanying wines. I prefer to drink beer.
Starting with chilled pumpkin soup, the following six courses were seafood. Oysters, sashimi Kingfish, Scampi, Octopus ravioli, Trout and Black lip Abalone. All carefully prepared and artfully presented. My favourite would have been the sashimi Kingfish with Blackbean and orange. Out of the two meat courses, the stand out would have been the Chicken breast with corn and foie Gras.
There was an additional dish to the menu of duck breast. Three desserts followed and were surprisingly easy to eat after all the previous courses, the most memorable being the banana ice cream and pineapple sorbet which was more like a mini pineapple fruit salad, delicious.
I think considering the service and attention to detail, Tetsuya’s is worth the visit and the waiting list for a reservation. However, the decor seems a little dated and in need of some modernisation. The evening cost approximately $300. Per person.

Over priced, over rated very expensive equivalent to average business class meals on an airline.
