For somewhere amongst other good restaurants we were hoping for a great authentic meal. It was ok, but the Kapitan chicken was too oil as it was deep fried and the hainan chicken was not as good as others we have got, but ok.

Its quite roomy inside, service was good and prices are not too bad. Just a shame the food we got was not as good.

I felt ripped off after eating here. I had high expectations for a restaurant that calls itself House of Malaya but they should have named it Malaya out of a bottle. The sauces (Chicken curry, Sambal in the Nasi Lemak, Satay sauce) tasted like they were out of the bottle. The roti chanai was definitely frozen packet that I can buy from the Asian store.

I've been to several Malaysian restaurants in Sydney and I cook Malaysian food when I get a chance so my guesses are usually spot on when it comes to food.
Disappointing.

Went here last night with a friend and was very disappointed. The service was good and attentive enough but the food was horrible. Chicken skewers for entree, the chicken pieces were so miniscule in a sauce that was too watery.

Rendang beef was tasteless and also the Hainanese chicken. It was just very disappointing all around. Won't be coming back here again.

We like eating at the Taste of Malaya, the staff are generally terrific, although they do have some without personality. The food is good especially the singapore chilli prawns. They are not good at coordinating the meal to arrive together but on balance I recommend them. Leanne is a doll.

This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had! After being seated, we were completely ignored for 30 minutes and had to go up to the counter to ask a waiter to come and take our order.

The food arrived, however, the water requested did not. We had to go up to the counter a further three times to request some water before we got actually received any. Truly shocking service, and the food was mediocre at best. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.

Great tasting food with good service. Entrees took a while to come but it was very busy. Food is very nice and authentic. Table for four was a bit small and our table was wobbly which can be very annoying. Whole fish is great value! Overall it was good, will go back again for sure!

The food is quite good and at a very reasonable price, The owner is so lovely and the serice was quick and friendly. Definitely recommended particulalry for a resonably priced night out with friends and family.

Always so Nice here, I have never really had a bad meal, very reasonably priced, easy, and good food. BYO you can't go wrong.

I did not really like this restaurant. Went here for lunch with my mum and we both left feeling feeling unpleased by the place. We first ordered green tea which tasted oily and horrible, almost like it had been mixed with chicken oddly enough. Really strange taste. We tried to complain but the waiter didn't really understand what we were trying to say so he took the pot of tea away, refilled it with hot water and brought it back. We ended up just asking for glasses of water.

For our lunch meal we ate the chef suggestion eggplant with chili, which was actually quite nice and a very decent sized portion. However the other dish we chose was the hokkein mee noodles with seafood and this was not very nice. It had a very fishy smell to it which made it unappetising and the noodles didn't have much flavour apart from egg and fish. Both my mum and I questioned how fresh the ingredients in dish was and we really didn't enjoy this dish at all.

Regarding the ambience of the place. Its nothing special really. The decor is alright by the seats and tables are quite small and uncomfortable, especially if you're ordering more than one dish at a time, plus rice, plus drinks... it all gets very squashy. Trying to grab the waiters' attention was rather difficult as they didn't even look in our direction to see if we were ok or wanted anything; which we did. Although they were very polite they are either understaffed or need better training.

Over all a rather unhappy experience and most likely won't be returning.
