Loved the beetroot + goat's cheese dish, dips plate and the potatoes, but disliked the chicken with vanilla yoghurt. Cheesecake for dessert was pretty average. My friends seemed to love the chocolate brulee.
Great location, nice ambience and good service. Bill came to about $50 per head for 5 dishes, 2 desserts and a jug of sangria shared between 3.
This restaurant is a great space - it's a shame something truly fantastic isn't here because it is so cosy and cute, plus they have a courtyard, great in summer.
I went here several months ago and will never go back, which is terrible considering I live round the corner. Ate there with my boyfriend, the food was way ordinary and portions were too small, especially for the price. The wait staff were just straight out weird.
The menu is small but I highly recommend the (breads, chorizos, prawns and chicken). The chocolate pudding dessert was to die for! The cost is on the expensive side considering it's only tapas. The service was great and friendly, and the food came out quite quickly.
This place is not as good as it was a few years ago. It has a limited selection of tapas on the menu and the recommendation of chorizo and Nanna Gomez's crispy fried eggs must have been a joke. It is simply fired eggs with a shallot sauce and a few slices of sausage, like leftovers for breakfast. Very overpriced for very ordinary food but in a nice setting at Five Ways.
Some of the tapas here are quite nice (crispy eggs, chorizos, prawns), however the menu here was a bit hit and miss. The duck was dry, there was too much dill with the mussels, lamb was a bit fatty, and portions in general were quite small. They try to compensate for this by stuffing you with bread! There are better, and cheaper, tapas restaurants around.
This is a jewel of paddington. The food is delicious, true tapas style in dishes to share with a wide variety of flavours and an equal variety of good wines to enjoy with. One of the few places I have been to that has my favourite Spanish wines, Crianza and Rioja. I have never enjoyed beetroot but tried the warm beetroot and goat's cheese salad at the waiter's suggestion.. it was mouth-wateringly delicious and now one of my regulars.
The chorizo and Nanna Gomez's crispy fried eggs are amazing and spicy, and I don't know anyone who doesn't enjoy the dark belgian chocolate creme brulee. The service for food can be slow, but the drinks are always quick and the staff are lively.
By reading over the last handful of reviews, it's blatantly obvious that these appear to be written by "friends" of the restaurant. I dined here last night and it definitely does not deserve straight 9s and 10s across the board.
While the food on the whole was tasty, it was overpriced and not good value at all. We were in a group and it really irks me when restaurants always push for groups to have the set menu. Are groups of people too stupid to order themselves?
The service really bothered me. The waitstaff were intent on getting us to order as much food as possible and kept returning to frequently offer us more food or jugs of sangria. I found it really pushy and annoying.
The chicken with vanilla yogurt sauce with a bit strange. And the chocolate "brulee" tasted like a packet dessert with a crisp top.
Overall, not great. I really love the idea of tapas, but I generally find that tapas in this town is overpriced and mostly average.
We had heard good things about tapenade but we were terribly dissapointed with the service.
First of all, as I had too ask for a drinks menu several times, once that arrived I then had to wave my hand around to get there attention. We were early and the restaurant only had two tables but everyone working seemed preoccupied with discussing there weekend around the corner near the toilets.
The food here is a little hit and miss, some interesting dishes executed well. I did like the carpaccio but the duck was so salty, it was inedible and the goats cheese in a paperbag please!!!!!!!! way to oily...I think with a little polishing this could be great ,but not worth the money the way they are now.
I've been to many tapas restaurants recently but none of them come close to this one. My girlfriend and I came here at the recommendation of a friend and I must say we were blown away.
The food isn't really Spanish even though chorizo and a tortilla are on the menu. I pointed this out to the waiter and he told me that Tapenade is modern Australian tapas with a few Spanish favourites. Anyway, the selection was great and the food was cooked to perfection. The best prawns I have ever had and the Kingfish carpaccio is better than anything you'll find at the Japanese restaurant just around the corner.
The prices were reasonable when you consider that this is Paddington but it's well worth it when your food is presented and cooked so beautifully. I can't rave on enough about this place!!!
For the ultimate dining experience that will spoil your tastebuds I highly recommend dining at Tapenades. The wait staff really know their menu and recommend food for first time diners. The food is amazing, the many different flavours that you can taste and appreciate are endless. The worst thing about the restaurant is that there are so many delicious dishes to choose from you are left wishing your stomach was bigger.
The kitchen staff ensure that you leave with thoughts of the menu running through your head of what you will order next time as the food is the ultimate in dining experiences. I highly recommend this restaurant as a must when you are anywhere near Paddington.
