Went back for a second time. Absolutely loved it. There are a few whingers that want great food at take away prices, simply because its Coogee. Its about time that we have a restaurant that caters for people other than back packers, or locals who spend like back packers. We simply coudn't fault the place. Recommended to our friends (they also understand that you have to pay for quality).
We ate at Tapas Rocs on Saturday night. I had heard mixed reviews from friends and read the reviews here, but we live in Coogee and like tapas so we thought it was worth a try.
I had booked a table and we were seated at a nice quiet table tucked away on the side of the restaurant. It seemed that the tables for 2 were placed around the edge of the restaurant with bigger groups in the middle which I think is a good idea. The atmosphere was lively as you would expect from a Coogee restaurant in the summer on a Saturday night. The waitresses were friendly and the service was good - food was spaced out adequately and dishes were cleared once finished.
We were hungry and decided to go for 6 dishes - $40 for 3. We ordered salad and potatoes which were both very tasty, but at $15 each were over-priced. We tried the salt and pepper squid - my partner (the squid expert) thought it was tasty - perhaps they have taken note of the reviews below. Agree about the lamb kofta - which was also a bit dry. We also ordered chorizo and the sixth dish (unmemorable - which means it was neither good nor bad). The food was in general tasty and we ate plenty, but it was definitely over-priced. I would think $10-$12 for each of these dishes would be far more reasonable.
The wine was good ( we opted for the Spanish red), but when we requested liquors to finish up with we were only offered Baileys. Given the size of the bar area there, this was a bit of a surprise! Wouldn't rush back and probably wouldn't suggest it for a group of friends because of the value for money.
This has to be the most expensive tapas restaurant in Sydney! We had a standard meal of 4 or so dishes and I had little change from $100! The ambience was nice but the food was average. I second what some of the other reviewers noted, the use of hamburger mince/meat for the kofta, salt and pepper squid of the take away variety. I would stay away from this place. Try the other Tapas places.
This place seems to have dropped its game a bit. It used to be really good value at 4 dishes for $40 but it's now down to 3 dishes for the same price. Agree that the lamb kefka was nowhere as good as previously. The angus steak was great but we weren't expecting sushi when we ordered the ocean trout.
This place really needs to lift it's game. Stale bread, hamburger patties for kofte, and beetroot salad from a tin. The staff were either absent or rude, ploking the plates down on the table and neglecting to remove those that were finished unless asked. Also, the floor was slippery with grease when we were leaving, very bad look.
My partner and I went to Tapas Rocs after reading the great reviews on this site. We're regulars to tapas restaurants and thought this place sounded good. The atmosphere in this place was really nice and romantic.
Unfortunately, the service and the food (particularly) let this place down. While it sounded great off the menu, and was presented beautifully, the food itself was tasteless and boring. The salt and pepper squid would have been more suited to a take away fish and chips cafe, and the lamb kefta resembled bad hamburger meat more than anything else. The starter bread was stale too, quite disappointing.
To add to this, most meals were $15 or $16 each, and the restaurant itself recommended 3 or 4 dishes per person which I think is a bit over priced, even for Coogee. Tapas is about sharing small amounts of great tasting food which Tapas Rocs did not provide.
If you're after a really good Tapas experience in the eastern suburbs, go elsewhere.
The food here is amazing! If you enjoy great tasting food that is presented beautifully, you must try this place out. Seven of us came for dinner on a Saturday night, we had the banquet for $40 each which allowed us to pick three dishes each. It was the perfect amount of food. By the time we'd had drinks it was approx $55 per head. We were full and well satisfied. I would definitley go back.
Dropped in 'unplanned' on a wet, cold weekday evening. Neecy and I found this place warm and friendly - although empty of patrons (early evening), the low-lit atmosphere and soft latino music was an encouragement to us for fine dining.
With a pricey $15/$16 per selection we opted for the $40 per head banquet which allowed us to choose 3 selections each to share from a wide variety. Each selection was well prepared and delicious. The service was tremendous also (friendly and attentive). Defintely worth a try.

Very very impressed. This was a perfect spot to wine, dine and romance, I couldn't think of a better place. From the moment we stepped in, the lighting and colours just placed us into a sensual mindset. A few glasses of red and the great food, followed by a stroll down to the beach was, just perfect. Could not put it any other way.
Wow, this restaurant has it all, a true dining experience. All your senses will come alive at this little local gem. The best restaurant on the strip. We dine here regularly, the staff are helpful, the ambience a delight and the food is fantastic! Highly recommend this place for any occasion.
