Decided to try out Takeya after searching around the website for a casual place to eat in the east which was not Thai, Tapas or Italian. I felt like Korean but didn’t want to go to Chinatown so I was pleasantly surprised when they offered some Korean dishes.
It’s a small joint, not much ambience but that’s not what we were after. Lots of people ordering take-away. Service was ok, just had to ask for everything, drinks and glasses, not very initiative in that way but fast at everything else.
There were four of us and we ordered a range of things so that we could judge if it was good or not. It was! I got the entrée of sashimi (saw it being sliced fresh at the cute little sushi bar) and had to get the Korean spicy tofu soup with rice and sides of kimchi and bean sprouts. They forgot my soup so I got it while the others were nearly finished their meals, but it came out quite fast and boiling furiously. It was just the right amount of spiciness and included seafood. Bonus.
The others had the bento box of teriyaki fish, teryaki chicken, yakitori and the sweet potato noodles. All good value and well cooked. A nice but not spectacular little Japanese place right near the beach with the cool breeze blowing and only $20 per head spent. Think it was Miranda Otto I saw too getting sushi take-away!

Really good cheap eat. About $20 each and all well fed. Service was friendly and homely. Definitely go again with a few nice bottles of vino.

The food is great and fresh, staff are friendly, and atmosphere is fantastic, just as what a japanese restaurant should be. Its relatively cheap too!

Not the best ambience but really great food. Mostly I get takeaway from here, I think you would be hard to pushed to find sashimi this good in takeaway box.
However, I do sometime pop along with BYO wine and enjoy a sit down. Service is always friendly. Not really somewhere for new date, but if you got need for wasabi and raw fish I know where I would go.

This place is ok. I eat here a fair bit, not much choice in Coogee really. Hand rolls are good. Sweet potato noodles are really good. Gyoza is not bad. Bento boxes not as good. Sashimi didn't do it for me. If you're getting sushi here I'd recommend getting the hand rolls (made fresh - $3.50).

After reading the 4 reviews and cradling a deep hankering for sushi, we made our way there. Perhaps with too much expectation. We ordered the entree tempura, sushi boat ($49.50) and the seafood pancake. Ok, I am trying not to be harsh. For what it is, Takeya is a probably a cut above ordinary.
The sashimi though fresh was not prime grade and the tempura veges were undercooked. It's a good place to head to after a surf or a swim..but certainly not something to write home about. I noticed that Takeya made heaps of takeway bento business.

The food is always fresh and very tasty. The sashimi is so fresh, it melts in your mouth! A great place for dinner after a swim. A beautiful view of Coogee beach and a sashimi plate equals a great summer's evening.
