Awful food. Was here with a group of 5 on a Saturday night with the All-You-Can-Eat KBBQ voucher. Being a big fan of KBBQ and seeing the voucher was value-for-money I decided to try out this place, big mistake. No-where on the voucher did it inform us that there is a two hour time limit, and neither was I informed when making the booking over the phone. But as 2hrs is plenty of time for us, that wasn't a huge issue I suppose.
Huge problem was the 'unlimited' meat that was served up. We weren't allowed to pick and choose once we finished our plate of raw food. Served up to us were 1cm thick slices of pork belly, chunky beef cuts which weren't marinated, prawns, fish, chicken. The only thing 'ok' were the prawns. But all the raw meats from the all-you-can-eat were bland and not marinated.
The biggest disappointment was the thick pork belly which tastes nothing like the usual pork belly and the beef cuts which were also thickly sliced and tough. The sauce was a watered down soya sauce, not the usual sesame seed oil with seasoning powder. We got two plates of side dishes, one bowl of rice to go around the table and some lettuce, all of which isn't refilled.
I certainly won't be revisiting this place ever. I'd rather pay extra and eat elsewhere and get better everything than waste my time coming back here. On the night, the restaurant was very full, but seems like every table were there because of a voucher.

I love this place. The ambience is rubbish but the food, wow. Really fresh sushi and sashimi, the service is good to great. It's the place to go for great Japanese and Korean food. I've been maybe 5 times and never been disappointed. Tonight I'm off to get a sushi and sashimi platter for takeaway as I don't have the time to eat in. Can't wait to eat it!

Did anyone order a really long black hair with their bulgolgi? We sure as heck didn't.
Extraordinarily disappointed as this used to be one of my favoured eateries in the area. Oh, how they can fall. The thing that really, really, really annoyed me most was the insistence we pay for everything that didn't need a shave!

The best place for jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and fried chicken. Whilst the fried chicken is pretty pricey, it's well worth it for the noodles itself.

Bassim is one of my favourite Korean BBQ restaurants in Sydney. I love the naengmyun, samgyupsal, kalbi and every other meat dish they have as they're all marinated very well.
Service usually is pretty good even when they're really busy and it's not too overly priced like some other restaurants. Definitely worth a visit!

Last night we went to Open Korea with a voucher for an ‘all you can eat’ Korean BBQ. We had tried several times to make a booking at this restaurant and were always told they were very busy and could only fit us in at 5 or 5.30pm. We decided we’d better take the option of the early booking otherwise we’d never get to use the voucher. We checked the voucher and saw that the deal included a soft drink, glass of house wine or a beer, all well and good, checked eatability and it clearly states it’s a BYO restaurant with no corkage.
That’s when the problems started, after telling the waitress that we would have two beers and then drink our own wine, we were told that the deal did not allow this. We politely pointed out that nowhere on the voucher does it give this information. The waitress went to see the ‘senior staff’ (we assume) and came back informing us that if we wanted to drink our wine then a corkage charge of $2.50 each would be applied, we agreed to the charge even though it’s supposed to be a no corkage restaurant.
She then went to get our beers but before they arrived the ‘senior staff’ came over to our table and indicated on the menu the dishes that would go to make up our meal and insisted on telling us that the food was worth over $100 so there was no way we would be allowed to drink our own wine, if we wanted wine we would have to buy it from his wine list! With that we asked for our voucher back and left the restaurant.
Just a note on the cleanliness of the restaurant from the little we saw of it, the table top was filthy, greasy and sticky and the wine list was equally dirty with sticky fingerprints all over it! Needless to say, we left the restaurant with not a very good impression of it and are wondering if the restaurant has changed hands as we had previously had several good meals there (some time ago though) with pleasant service, cleanliness and good value for the food.

Haven't tried the Korean bbq but whats on the menu is good. Its a little more than I expect to pay but that is the only minor issue I have with this place. I like the food here, their bento boxes are decent and the service is polite. Food comes out at a reasonable speed and though there is not much ambience here its at least clean. A cheaper option than other places in Burwood.

We attended this venue yesterday (Saturday) for lunch. The feeling we both got from the moment we walked in was that we were not welcome. We were both well dressed.
We were completely ignored, even to the point of others who entered the establishment after us were immediately attended to by the wait staff but we were not, we were just left sitting there. After twenty minutes of this we left, bitterly disappointment at such treatment.
The place looked good and others seemed to be enjoying their meals. They were not busy so why and how dare they ignore customers like us?

This restaurant is located upstairs on King St and therefore easy to miss.
We went there and ordered a BBQ set for three and a seafood and shallot pancake. The BBQ food was cooked at our table on a portable cooker, smoke was not an issue (in contrast to one other Korean restaurant in Newtown that we have been to). All ingredients were very fresh. Korean side dishes such as Kimchi were served, and were replaced later in the meal when the first servings ran out. Rice is ordered separately and is reasonably priced.
Although listed here is 'BYO', alcohol is also sold here.
This restaurant, although easy to miss when strolling along King St, serves excellent Korean food, for a very reasonable price. The restaurant is very modern inside and the service is fast and efficient, without being rushed.
In summary: Highly recommended.

What a hidden gem! I throughly enjoyed the food, home made dumplings, yum, the clay pot rice was fabulous, and the spicy beef soup was a really nice surprise after being disappointed that the chicken herbal soup had sold out due to it's popularity that day (clearly everyone had the same idea because the weather was cold!). The treat was definitely the rendition on the piano by manager Joshua!

Was surprised to stumble on this restaurant. It is located in a quiet area and the food here is excellent and most of all fresh. You can tell that the dumplings are made fresh and not brought frozen ones like some other korean restaurants. I loved the Spicy Pork and Teriyaki chicken the best. Oh and don't forget to try the Potato noodles - yum. I had never had these before coming here. The owners were genuinly friendly and we will be going back.

The degustation menu is perfection. We've dined here many times and have held a function there as well and will continue to return. David is a wonderful host and the food is exceptional and the price very reasonable.
Response from Management:
I'm often asked when do I get time to write replys, managing two restaurants world apart. Well, it's because of people like you, TTiger. Your review b4 us on 'eatability' was 2008 - you've taken your time out for us, the least I can do is acknowledge your effort and say "Thank you!"

Absolutely love this restaurant. Exceptional service. Hot, fresh food. Very tasty, good prices. However, Be Very Careful if ordering the BBQ grill. One bbq plate @ $50 is supposed to be enough for 2. (I had it with my boyfriend first time, both hungry after Contains approx. 1 mushroom, 2 rings of onion, 2 slices pumpkin, 2 chicken skewers and a couple pieces of meat).
2nd time we ordered 4 plates @$200. we had 7 people, should have extra food if any! Only 2 plates came out. Being a girl I didn't take any meat from the plate As I could see how little was there, So the boys could eat. I just had my bowl rice. Paid for salads. Didn't receive Any Salad. So then everyone filled up on rice only to find out rice was extra $3-4 a bowl? Spent $35 on boiled rice? Every person there was absolutely starving upon leaving. Bill Was $300.
Extremely angry, went somewhere else and bought food straight after. I will go back definitely but not for bbq. The other 6 refuse to go anywhere near the joint which is a big shame because every other meal I've had there (about 15) have been delicious.

The restaurant is modern and clean and pleasantly located away from the busy, main streets. This is going to be my new place to go for Korean food. Unlike your average Korean restaurant, Maroo offer many traditional Korean dishes on their menu.
The food in the banquet menu was delicious, and came out quickly, almost too quickly, however, staff were more than willing to hear us out, and brought the courses out a little slower. Service was attentive and friendly. Everyone had a great time and were all impressed by the restaurant. Highly recommended.

An upmarket version of the traditional Korean BBQ with decent service and flashier than usual decor. Their meats are also more premium (and more expensive) but their Angus boneless short rib was quite good although their pork belly was a bit tough. Try their yakult soju, it tasted very different from anything I've had before!
