What a place! Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel is just the perfect spot where to eat great food and have a refreshing cocktail with a group of friends. I've been there during a sunny, lovely day and, even if it was pretty busy, I could taste a perfectly nice and fresh seafood platter... absolutely delicious! I really recommend Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel for having a great day out with good food and amazing view of Sydney.

Superb and very fresh fish. The chips were amongst the best that I have ever had. Soft drinks were on the expensive side. Very clean premises. It could be the best fish and chips outlet in Sydney? The counter staff need to learn how to smile when they serve customers. Never saw anyone smile. Not good!

This pub goes from strength to strength. Every time I come back they have improved something. They have a great range of ourstanding craft beers, both on tap and in bottle, their menu is great value for money and they have specials ov every day... Massively rate their beautiful lean cut rump steaks, only $12.50 with chips and salad.

The view! Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel's perfect time is for sunset drinks and dinner. My picks were the sauté garlic prawns and the Grand Watson Cocktail that comes in a coconut! While it is a bit pricey, the view does make up for it. Seriously, the cute outdoor bar and the view.

Watson's Bay Hotel is a holiday that's just a hop, skip and a jump from the CBD. I had a great time with my friends and enjoyed the summer feeling of freedom and friendliness! Join in the magic of Sydney any day of the week with great views, a cozy atmosphere and smiles from their wonderful staff!

We had an excellent luncheon experience to celebrate my birthday recently. Service and the food were excellent. A ship was in which blocked the fantastic views but you get that being an active terminal. The hot platter was more than enough for us both. We will certainly be back.

The food was pretty average. Fresh fish but the method of cooking was any regular tuck shop. The service however was terrible. Rushed service, no sense or order for the queue, and plain rude. Never looked at me once, when I was placing the order. If you can, avoid this place so they know what they are doing wrong so they'll pick up on their game.

Where shall I start. Food was up with the worst I have had. Buffalo wings were more like sparrow wings, chicken parma was burnt and cold, others had $10 schnitzel, it was more like $2 schnitzel if you blinked you would of missed it and so small I think it was 1/4 of normal size. Husband had lamb tv dinner, was more like mutton floating in cold water than lamb. Another place that takes your money and never comes near you to check how the meals are.

The location is first class, and I love the food... having said that we are talking fish and chips here! So I cannot score it well on value. I gave 1 star only because even though you now pay $43.50 for fish and chips (John Dory), they felt the need to add $5 weekend surcharge! Not a public holiday surcharge, but a weekend surcharge!

Nothing special here guys. food was fresh but very average. Service was rushed an rude. Ambience is like sitting on a main road in a take-away milk-bar lost in the 70’s. Value is not bad but definitely not cheap.

We booked a table for two on Saturday night at 6:30pm. Went on time and were offered a small table squashed in the corned of the balcony, just 50 cm away from the next table. No room for private conversation at all! We didn't like it and asked for another table nearby which was more roomy and about 2 meters away from other tables. The waitress was not helpful at all and said that we can't seat there as all the tables were booked for other clients.
Considering that the restaurant was 70% empty and nobody was sitting on the balcony we should have been offered any table there really. I am very disappointed with the way the new customers are treated! I guess our money was not good enough for Doyles family business. We were offered a table inside the restaurant far from the balcony with no view of the bay... and we left. Will not return to this place again.

Bloody average and bloody over priced.
Went there tonight and I am oh so disappointed. Other reviewers are correct, the area does need a good fish and chipper, and as a local, sadly this is a long way off being the answer. Sorry hipster fans of "Psari", but a funky little shop in a funky little area does not necessarily make it good food.
At $6 the hand cut fries are a rort! Soggy, boring, and a tiny portion. Chips/fries need to be crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside- these were woeful. The flathead and chips delivered 3 small pieces of fish between 5-8cm long outweighed by bland, doughy batter atop a generous portion of frozen chips. The salt and pepper squid was okay, just lacking in salt and pepper. Again, not much of a portion for $14.
I wish them well and I do hope they improve, because they really need to. For a time patrons will come because it is a little bit different and funky, but if the food doesn't deliver it won't last, and nor should it. Just ask the people behind the last 3 cafe/restaurants along the strip that recently have failed.

Had such a good experience here last weekend. The staff were quick, friendly and prompt but most importantly the food was great and I loved the cocktails served in coconuts. Impressive view and a really clean venue. Very happy.

Went there today and was disappointed. We chose this place rather than Danny's - a decision we later regretted. The fish I had was a generous size but muddy tasting, chips were small in quantity, and my 9 year old son who is not picky even said unprompted that the seafood sticks were "tasteless". The batter was good though, nice thin and crispy but it didn't make up for the taste or lack thereof of the food inside, especially the fish. This was well up there in the top worst 5 fish and chip meals I've ever had.
My wife had a chicken burger, it was borderline satisfactory, she recognised the chicken fillet as something she'd seen in a supermarket box. She also noted that the bathroom was messy. Service was abrupt and the cashier didn't seem to know what was on the menu.

I had the traditional Korean BBQ Chicken. My meal came on a sizzling plate. It was served with four different pickles, with one being the ever-present kimchi, along with a small container of rice. All for $12. Nice feed, provided Korean food is your thing.

Enjoyed a surprise lunch date with my husband here on Sunday and was generally impressed.
Ordered a smattering of dishes to share over a bottle of white. Asked for a recommendation from the friendly waitress for a "crisp dry white" and whilst a lovely bottle of riesling was agreed upon it was not what I would have called crisp or dry but was very tasty.
Garlic scallops - sublime mouth-fulls of delicate well cooked scallops in a perfectly balanced garlic butter and a crisp panko like topping - 5 to a serve.
Zucchini and fish fritters - not mentioned as actually being zucchini flower fritters on the menu I was expecting a more pakora like fritter of grated zucchini. When I mentioned this to the waiter he just kind of shrugged but my husband enjoyed them.
Seafood basket - the kind of seafood basket you wish for everytime you order one somewhere else!! Crumbed, not battered which would be a personal preference, fried to perfection with a small selection of 2 prawns, 2 pieces of fish, a few pieces of calamari, great chips and 2 natural oysters. A scallop or a mussel or two might be a nice addition to truly make it special. Was served with a cocktail sauce (very tasty) which I am not sure if that was an accident or not but we did request some tartare to make it more traditional.
We also ordered one of their dim sims and potato scallops, both of which were great examples of what you remember at a great local fish and chip shop 30 years + ago! Sure the prices are not local shop prices but you cannot argue with either the quality of the produce of the way it was cooked.
Look forward to returning to try other items on the menu.
Now for the atmosphere - cleverly decorated and generally staff were great but as per usual ill mannered parents with badly behaved children were intent on spoiling our romantic date as well as the luncheons of all the other patrons in the restaurant.
After being seated in a quiet spot at the back of the restaurant the first parents with brat arrived and set about drowning out the kitchen with their clanging and banging to settle the kid in to it's high chair. The mother of the child then proceeded to discuss with the kid at full volume with a donkey like braying laugh whether it was excited about having "yummy wummy fishy wishy" for lunch. My husband and I promptly relocated to another table around the corner.
Fortunately only a few high pitched squeals and screams were heard from out new table (around a corner, behind a wall and 15 feet away) that again the parents only seemed to encourage. When the second parents arrived with brat #2 (we were half way through our meal) and went to sit at the table directly next to us - we cancelled all plans for dessert. They did eventually work out that perhaps seating the two groups with brats next to each other might be more appropriate and my husband and I were able to continue our lunch without feeling like we were in a playground!
I know there is little that restaurants can do these days with inappropriately behaved children (Yes parents it is your responsibility to take your kids to appropriate restaurants. If you can't stand another meal at mcdonalds and you have to bring your precious angel to a grown up restaurant then shut your brat up or leave so you don't spoil everyone else's evening unless you, the parent of said brat, want to pay the bill for everyone else in the restaurant!) but please floor staff, read your patrons a little.
If you have a couple, clearly having a romantic meal, don't put the group with the stroller right next to them. If there is more than one group with kids, seat them together. Who know one of the kids might actually be well behaved and influence the other ones - it could be a revolution!
Music showed signs of being spot on for a lovely Sunday afternoon with some classic rock songs but then some brain child decides to mix in a little bit of doof doof house music which is as jarring to the flow of a lunch as discovering that bit of avocado you just ate was actually wasabi.
Has so much potential if they can keep up the food standards, give the floor staff a little more training in wine suggestions & seating the restaurant and keep the music appropriate.

We haven't been to A Fish Called Coogee for years. We didn't know the fish would be so expensive at $4.50 plus per 100g, and ontop of that, there's $1 per 100g cooking charge. After we noticed this on the bill, the waiter very sourly pointed out that this charge is written at the bottom of the blackboard menu in scrawled illegible and faded chalk. We requested grilled fish with no flour and got a lightly battered fish with flour and little taste. The salad had an odd dressing and not worth the expense. The entire experience was dismal and we felt like we had been ripped off.

Today was my second lunchtime visit. I had the specialty of the house - snapper with tomato and chilli. It was cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the flounder and said it was lovely. We shared the homemade potato scallops - yummy, also the coleslaw. Another hit. If you want a laid back, tasty meal of good quality fish, in a place with funky decor this is a good place to go.
