Thought we'd try somewhere different before a night at the state theatre.
We shared a bottle of wine and were offered water. We were presented with a 600mL bottle of Mt Franklin for $7.00. This would be fine if it was a high end restaurant, but for a restaurant which appears like a diner it was a bit much.
I had the salmon teriyaki which was over cooked and, therefore, too dry. It was served with rice and a single leaf of bok choy. Although the sauce was good, there was not enough.
The service was superficial. The waitress became bitter after we suggested that we'd not requested bottled water. Will not be returning.

The betel leaf with prawns was delicious along with the zesty scallops for starters. Highly recommend the fall apart beef ribs. Attentive service and well balanced food. Only negative is the noisy Pittwater road.

Hubby and I went back for the second time and for the second time we were incredibly disappointed in the food here.
The only good thing is the salt and pepper chicken wings, they are lovely.
We had two mains with fried rice. The fried rice was flavourless, it was almost watery and the rice was mushy. Nothing resembled like it had been tossed round in a hot wok.
The singapore noodles were the worst I have ever had in my life. You could see and taste the graininess of the curry powder. And we had the lamb with special sauce that was supposed to be spicy hot. It tasted like mongolian lamb to us and had no 'spice' heat to it at all.
I cannot recommend this restaurant and we will not be returning unless it is for the chicken wings as takeaway. Another truly annoying thing was they had a large plasma tv on the wall and it was on. You watched people sitting at their tables watching the tv and not talking to their companions. Weird.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Highlights would have to be the chicken penang, salt and pepper squid, pad thai and the steamed barramundi. Flavours were fresh and full of flavour. The waitress will happily suggest meals that complement each other if you need. Loved it. Will definitely return.

Sushi Tei used to be my fav jap restaurant for years because of the food, the serving and value and I was always a frequent diner bringing my family, friends or relatives from overseas. However, the recent visit to Sushi Tei has let me down so much that I have decided not to go back there anymore.
Service was poor and staff were young, inexperienced and not responsive to customers. They seem extremely clueless and disrespectful. Here are examples of my unpleasant experience:
The drinks were expensive, small in size and tasteless as they were diluted with heaps of ice. My sister loves their special drinks and they used to be glass full but now they only give you no more than 75%. And the worse thing is we all got sick after drinking them.
Customer service was extremely poor. The staff were young, inexperience, disrespectful and inflexible. There was no customer focus in the restaurant and you can see that from how the staff treat their customers. When we got the bill, we noticed one of the items was charged differently from the price per the menu so we inquired with one of the staff.
To my surprised, she told us that the price on the bill was the new price. I asked her why it was not reflected on the menu that we were given from the start and she said it fell off the menu. I said I don't mind paying the extra but only if that was what I get told first. If this is acceptable, then why bother showing prices on the menu? Why don't you just keep the prices on the computer and give customers a surprise when they pay the bill?
However, she would not admit their fault and kept arguing that there is nothing they could do and the price on their computer is the correct price. She did not seek any other ways to solve the situation but kept on arguing until I asked to speak to her senior staff. Even though they eventually agreed to forgo the extra charge, the senior staff or the staff did not offer their apology at all. It was very disappointing that a happy family dinner has turned into such a sour and awkward situation.
The serving size was so much smaller than it was. For example, the Phoneix Roll used to be quite filling and cost only $15 each. Over the years, I noticed the reduction in size, although the number of piece remains the same. The rice was also over cooked.
If you asked my opinion, I would honestly say that the food is still good but be prepared for poor service and small serving size for the price you pay. I think it is to do with the new management or new chef.

I came here for lunch one Saturday as my mum was craving seafood laksa and it definitely did not disappoint.
It wasn't crazy busy, but we went there early and there were a few patrons enjoying their food, slurping away, so my husband bit the same and opted for the Seafood laksa while I went for the daily special which was har meme seafood pieces II clear soup. As the weather was very chilly, it was perfect! I didn't enjoy the soup as much as it was a bit salty but tasty nevertheless, I would like to try their other special dishes!

One of the worst I must say. I ordered a stir-fried rice noodle with beef and the oil in that dish was horrendous. Due to the excessive amounts of oil, I proceeded to ask one of the waiters for a couple of tissues since they must have this 'one for each person' tissue policy. When that one did not return I ask two more, all of which just returned to the counter to ponder about life or something. I guess they just have very short memory spans?
In total, I spent an hour and a half in that cafe, waiting to be actually seated, then for the food to arrive. Never going there again!

I can't fault the place. This was our second visit and this time we took the kids. The staff were brilliant, they took full blame for a booking error, even though I'm pretty sure it was my fault. They re-arranged things to accommodate us, despite it being a very busy Friday night. There's so much to like about the menu, from the choice of dishes to the design. I love being able to order full or half portions of every dish. Really innovative and clever idea. There were 9 of us (including 4 kids who are all good eaters).
Some dishes we loved were the san choy bau, the scallops with ginger, the massaman curry (one of the best we've all eaten), the soft shell crab, the duck (superb), the chicken and broccoli ho fun and the nasi goreng. Our kids lapped up all the food and the portions were great sizes. We had two bottles of excellent wine and an extra glass, and the bill only came to $300 for the nine of us. That's amazing value for such a high end restaurant in an expensive suburb for such big portions of really top quality food.
I'm glad to see there's such consistently good reviews for China Beach as they really deserve it. Can't wait to return.

Yummy food but possibly smallest servings this side of malacca. Popularity seems to have gone to their heads, too - a complaint about the paltry size of rendang fell on deaf ears. Terrible, terrible attitude, terrible value for money, leaving a terrible taste in my mouth (which is a shame as the food is better than average).

Horrid, horrid experience tonight.
Went with a friend using a voucher for their nine course peking duck offer. The ambience is a typical westernised Chinese restaurant. The service is non-existent, they leave you a list of what is coming out and leave the rest up to for figuring out. Lots of meals appeared to have had been made in advance and left in the fridge then simply brought out. I was mostly appalled and haven't seen this low quality of food in a long time.
The real kicker, however, was half way through, a man who worked there approached us and told us our voucher had already been used (it hadn't). We asked for him to show us proof of it being used prior and he didn't do anything, he simply walked away. Another person came and was no help as we asked also, our below average experience now dismal and ruined as we were worried.
We didn't bother with dessert as we asked the front desk to record in front of us the coupon. They didn't do it, they simply showed us some list with our number highlighted which really means nothing. The man said that instead of paying the full price of $188 we'd only be charged $78. Very suspicious as we asked again for them to show us on the computer that it wasn't accepted and they still didn't.
I ended up forking out the $78 extra. We left annoyed. My friend will be contacting the coupon website also tomorrow. Do not come here, You have been warned. This place overall disappointing!

Pretty much just your average local chinese in a fancier row of restaurants. It was cold inside and service could have been friendlier.
As for the food, we got some steamed dim sums, soup and beef and black bean. All were ok, but have found much better before. Flavours were just not there and tasted a little bland.

This was my local, something has changed maybe the chef or it could be the GFC again. I ordered my favourite the wagyu beef red curry, this time I got a beef stir-fry very ordinary, My wife who is not a fussy eater, ordered the cashew chicken which was so salty she send it back. I will just have to find a new local very disappointing but good things don’t last it seems.
