You always hear people talk about the Korean restaurant in the alleyway. So I thought it was about time to see what the fuss was all about. Apart from having to wait 20-30 minutes for an outdoor table on a weeknight. It was definitely worth it. We ordered gyoza and starch noodles with beef for starters and it was delicious. Two lots of bbq meats (beef, pork neck and ox tongue) was plentiful between 8 people.
This was accompanied with side dishes and lotsa Korean wine, it was sure a great meal. We finished off with hotpot and the food was excellent. Service was quick and efficient, considering how many times we pressed the bell. Excellent value for what you get, will be back for more!
I think this place is slightly overrated. The food is pretty ok, however, I didn't think the service was too great. The waitress was a bit rude and stingy, sulking everytime we requested for refills of the side dishes (the salad and kim chi). Apart from that, we waited for a table for at least more than half an hour and that was at 5.45 pm. Plus they don't take bookings in advance. If the service improves, I don't mind going back there again.
I've eaten there several times after social salsa dancing, a fantastic restaurant and still busy at 1 or 2 am in the morning! The bbq aromas are mouth watering, and I have been daring to increase my orders of higher chilli ratings. The service is excellent, don't be too quiet with your requests, just yell with a smile!
Not entirely sure what all the fuss is about Madang. Food is quite good, but you can eat just as well in about 5-6 other Korean restaurants in the CBD without the rushed experience and the waiting to get a table. Can't really give it as glowing recommendation as I have seen from others on this site. Expect a long wait whenever you visit in peak meal times.
Arrived at Madang in a group of 5 on a sunday nite at about 6.45 pm and was surprise to find it already surprisingly packed! We took a number and waited approx 15 minutes before we were seated.
The waiters were friendly and the service was quite good and they were nice enough to always refill our side dishes. We had the baby octopus, king prawns and beef ribs for the bbq and ordered a seafood hotpot as well as 2 other entree and we were stuffed by the end of it! The quality of food is fresh and the marinade for the beef was good as well.
Our seafood hotpot also came with udon noodles which had a springy texture and was very tasty. The soup was spicy and tasty, just the thing for a cold winter night.
Madang is a definite keeper amongst the throng of korean restaurants in the city.
Yum yum yum. This place was recommended to me and I wasn't disappointed! Servce was swift, I'd reserved a table for lunch. The serving of deep-fried oysters was huge and they were stunning. We had eel, dumplings, obligatory seafood pancake and a stirfried beef dish. It was all superb. $25 per head and we were all stuffed. I'll be back!
Have been here with a friend a couple of times chasing some serious chilli heat, haven't been disappointed yet. The lady who runs the main dining room is a real gem, and remembers your favourite dishes from visit to visit. Well priced and great service, just wish the airconditioning was a little cooler when eating 6 chilli dishes.
Wonderful, but better be early or you'll be waiting for a table for at least two hours. Can't get enough. Can be a bit noisy at times, and can't hear your table's conversation, but it's the food that keeps me coming back for more! Hmmmm, yummy!
Just love this place, can't get enough! I'm addicted to their chilli seafood soup, also the seafood pie, and the stirfry beef is always succulent and tasty. Good nibbles to begin with particularly kimchee. Bibimbap was really good too the one time I had it.
Also had the on table bbq once and wouldn't be bothered with that, off the menu is best. Don't like the smokers outside so usually wait for inside table! Waits usually not too bad, 10 minutes or so.
Super long wait on a winter's day (a while back). Don't get what all the fuss is about. Food was average. Nothing really stands out, but it is above average for a Sydney KBBQ which doesn't serve Wagyu beef.
Ambience was laidback. A bit warm from all the BBQs at times. Service - we had a really nice waiter. Button on the tables for service is Asian efficiency at its best.
Overall, would recommend people looking for a good night out and KBBQ to go (only if they asked), but I wouldn't say it is the best out there nor would I return anytime soon.
